Indycar Season 2025 Thread

Well, well. Fox Sports have taken a 33% share of Penske Entertainment, owners of Indycar and of the IMS for an amount rumoured to be between $135m and $140m, and extended their broadcast contract for even longer too. Some great news, and much needed stability. It might even tempt another engine manufacturer to join!

I actually think there's a great product in Indycar if they polish it up a bit, though some of its rough around the edginess over F1 is part of the appeal!

I'm guessing it's NFL related but 75% of the races are in just 4 months and it's all done by August it could do with a bit more space to breathe.

The calendar is setup in such a way that it doesn't overlap witht he NFL season on purpose. What's silly though is how inconsistent the season is. Although next year's calendar isn't set, there's only one extra race on 2026 at texas.

You had St. Pete on March 2nd, then 3 weeks gap to Thermal club. Three weeks to Long Beach, then another three week gap. three events in May including the Indy 500, then Detroit which is such a waste and a terrible track and race. June is pretty busy with 3 races in 3 weeks, 5 races in July then 3 in August. Then nothing. They're trying to get Mexico in there somewhere, the end of April seems obvious. Space the races out a bit better, especially early in the season and we could have 19-20 races.

It's a spec formula, it's never going to be any different to how it is.

But it does seem very ragged, even little things like driver photographs, they've had that stupid gurning picture of Herta for years.

I actually love indycar, they all have the same car but they end up with very different handling.
Apart from Palou this season anyway, it’s very competitive and there’s a lot of action.

Some of the tracks like Detroit for example are dodgy as hell mind.

If you didn’t watch the Milwaukee Mile I’d recommend catching the highlights! One of the most ***** to the wall victories you’re ever likely to see!

Interesting chat going on about Herta having a bash at F2 next season probably with a view to getting the required super license points you're assuming for a Cadillac drive in F1 in the future.

For me he hasn't done enough in Indycar to suggest he's got what it takes for F1 (and he has had more than enough seasons to do so by now) but would certainly spice F2 up a bit to see how he does!

Given that he's failed to impress in a spec series, in what is probably a less competitive series than F2, and with a supposedly top team, in the four or five years he's been there, I find many reasons, and plenty of evidence to suggest that he's not good enough for F1 and may even struggle in F2.

I'm not convinced there are too many Indy drivers that could really make it in F1; Palou maybe but he never really shone in Europe or Japan before heading to the USA.
I'd have liked to see Callum Illott in F1 and Theo Pourchaire as well though, I think both would have been good if given a proper chance.

and he would turn up with a big reputation if he didn't win it or nearly win it 1st season I think he'd be heading back to Indy.

Though same as Palou and the red bull talk there's nothing to lose them giving it a go sure Andretti and Ganassi would take them straight back if it doesn't work out.

Ah well McLaren's luck running out in Indycar today as well, Pato in the wall from the lead, looks like a puncture causing it.

Didn't have "The dextrous feel of a champion" as Will Power put it, when the same puncture happened to Palou earlier in the race.

With Pato out and Power having a terrible stop just then, gotta make sure Palou wins somehow.

Palou was lucky with where he was on the track, relative to pit entry when the puncture happened. O'Ward wasn't as lucky.

I'm not usually a fan of oval races, but I did enjoy that one. I'd rather the Nashville race was the road circuit they used last year though.

I think this speedway arrangement is a temporary one while they build the new Titans stadium downtown but that's not due to open for a couple more years.

Indycar seems to be finishing their season earlier and earlier, not even September and all over!
They're deathly afraid of going up against the NFL season and their broadcast partner Fox doesn't want to show it on a minor channel or streaming when NFL games are on. I understand it, but I wish they'd do a bit more earlier in the season.

The 2026 season still hasn't been confirmed, but Thermal is being dropped (no real surprise there) but they're going back to Arlington and there's still a chance they'll go to Mexico City.
