*** The Official Aoostar WTR Max NAS thread ***

How did you get the display to do something useful? My Aooster is hidden away so I’ve no use for it but when I looked the software seemed to be Windows only.
Just followed this guide really

I can see you can do custom templates too. Havnt gone that far yet ...just had a fiddle to change the language from chinese and then tried a few display changes. Hopefully its usefullness will grow over time but just happy it works and seems to be displaying something useful

All well still with mine, just been sat doing its thing and no issues to report. Happy with the purchase, although there is one specific transcode Plex chucks to the CPU so do need to investigate that at some point.

The only thing I’ve done of note since my original install has been to add a couple of NVME drives which made me appreciate the easy accessibility of the NVME tray. I also removed the 2.5Gb network cable and installed a SPF+ fibre link. Everything I’ve done so far has been boringly simple and I’m glad of that as I’m past the tinkering stage and just want things to work. Apart from a couple of shutdowns to install new drives, the Aoostar has been happily running for a month nonstop. Long may it continue

Had mine since June, excellent little box. For my setup I'm running Ubuntu 24.04. Hardware wise:
  • 64GB Non-ECC RAM (will get ECC down the line)
  • 4 x 22TB drives ZFS mirrored stripe (2 x Seagate Ironworf pros refurb and 2x Toshiba MG10s)
  • 1TB Nvme boot
  • 2TB Nvme storage
  • 1TB Nvme scratch disk
  • Connected via SFP+
It's been serving me very well so far. It was this or the Minisforum N5 Pro, but the N5 pro seems overpriced in comparison and you get less Nvme slots

Mine turns up next week, fingers crossed. I actually cancelled one of these vs the Minisforum N5 Pro and flic/flacked for a while.

Is anyone in the offical Aoostar discord? Apparently there's a flaw with the Nvme explansion board that needs a new revision to fix. I haven't experianced any issues personally.

Dear Users, @here

Regarding recent reports of potential speed reductions or recognition failures when installing SSDs in the M.2 slot of WTR MAX routers, we have held multiple internal meetings. Our R&D team has confirmed through testing that this issue stems from a component positioned too far on the motherboard, resulting in poor signal reception in some units already sold. The R&D team also indicated that the final solution for both issues is expected to be released in mid-November. I will notify everyone again as the date approaches.

We understand this timeline is too long for our long-term customers. Therefore, customers currently experiencing the above issues can use our temporarily updated BIOS version to resolve approximately 90% of the problems (please do not share this externally). After applying this BIOS update, the following situations may occur:
1: Both issues are resolved after the update
2: Throttling resolved, but some slots fail to recognize drives. Engineers recommend switching channels. If recognition issues persist, contact us to request an unmodified M.2 bracket.
3: If throttling continues after updating, contact me ([email protected]) by mid-November with supporting screenshots. I will ship a functional, improved M.2 bracket.
4: If both issues remain unresolved after the update: - Contact us to request an M.2 bracket (unmodified version) as a temporary solution for hard drive recognition failure - For throttling issues, contact me at [email protected] by mid-November with relevant screenshots as proof. I will send you a functional, improved M.2 bracket. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by recent events. AOOSTAR remains committed to delivering the highest quality customer service. Please feel free to share any additional concerns or improvement suggestions with me.

Affected customers (those who purchased WTR MAX devices through my official store) may contact me to receive an additional $30 discount coupon for future purchases on the AOOSTAR official website.

I'll probably wait until the new bracket is ready and request for one.

I got a single 32Gb Lexar ECC 5600mhz for £68. I didn’t got looking for ECC but it was the same price as non ECC memory so it would’ve been daft not to get it. It’s been in my Aoostar since I got it with no issues

Found this interesting comment to Level1 Techs Video review

'Undocumented feature - if you remove the 4x M.2 carrier bay it upgrades the internal M.2 to gen4 x4 in addition to the gen4 x4 lanes over OCuLink. Two gen4 x4 with the USB4 connectivity besides is pretty epic.'

I’ve probably missed/ misread something but if I remember correctly, when I was installing my NVMEs to the carrier tray, it says on the slots that two slots are x2 and two are x1 which would indicate 6 lanes are available. I suspect this is wrong and the two x2 slots only run at x2 when only those two slots are filled.
