Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

Palace don't have the money to buy major players in case a bid comes in. Liverpool didn't put a bid in until the last second so Palace didn't have the funds available to replace Guehi ahead of this.

Liverpool wanted to get Guehi on the cheap and it didn't pay off for them. It isn't the end of the world and as a Palace fan I'm happy we get to keep Guehi a bit longer.
so palace dont ahve the funds to get a replacement in, but guehi cant leave because you dont have replacements? strange.

Anyway, you've got him until January is my guess, lets just hope he doesnt suffer an injury to scupper any move/his wc aspiration :)

Palace don't have funds to sign a replacement on the chance we will lose a player. I'm not sure why this is a complicated concept to understand.

You tried to sign Ousmane Diomande didn't you? That was back in July. Had the money then it seems.

You note we tried but didn't sign him. Deal fell through because we didn't want to pay the money they were asking. I guess we didn't have the money.

We bid for him weeks ago though. Palace knew at the very least there was £30m on the table 2+ weeks ago.

£30m wasn't enough to make the deal work I guess. It seems Liverpool didn't want him enough.

Are you genuinely naive enough to not realise that most deals are agreed in principle subject to various pre-requisites before a formal offer is made? Palace will have known for ages that Liverpool were ready to buy as soon as they gave the green light. They’ve had ample time to secure a replacement without needing to commit any additional funds.

But £35m was. Just like the situation with Isak & Newcastle, had Palace been willing to negotiate at the level they've accepted now then the deal would have been agreed weeks ago. The point though is Palace knew there was the money on the table and knew they could have got that extra £5m out of Liverpool - the whole 'Palace can't sign replacements on the chance a player leaves' line doesn't wash. Palace knew the money for the replacement was there - why they didn't or couldn't sign a replacement, I don't know.

I do agree on the last part of your post though and have said as much already and earlier in the window. I think Guehi is/was a bit of an opportunistic signing for us. He was relatively cheap, home grown, could play both sides and would be reliable if not spectacular. I think I actually said earlier in the window that he's a steady eddy that would allow us to sign a young/project CB, which is exactly what we ended up doing with Leoni.

Liverpool were ready to buy for ages at a price which was unacceptable to Palace. Liverpool tried to do this on the cheap and left it to the last minute to make an offer which was agreeable.

Big clubs don't get everything their own way.

you've had a 35mi bid on the table for weeks as mentioned by other posters in which you countered and said 35+5, you then agreed to the 35m today - there is no 'last minute agreeable offer' as its the one thats been on the table from us for weeks!!

the only reason its not happened is because you've been kicking your heels over a replacement (well a couple) since you've known about the bid from us. Its nothing to do with us 'lowballing' or whatever other reason you've made up. Its purely on you guys and glasner threatening to walk away from your club, which is silly as he'll be gone as soon as a job opens up in the prem for a bigger club

It appears that was the point at which Palace were willing to do business.

We don't know what interaction happened between Palace and Liverpool. It was clear that Palace would only sell if they could find a suitable replacement. £5m might seem like peanuts to Liverpool but it makes a difference to a club like Palace.

Whether my statement about Palace not being able to sign replacements until they know they are going to sell washes or not doesn't change anything. Palace have for years been running a very frugal operation. We've gone into administration twice in recent years. I'm happier with the club being run on a sustainable budget than have administration number 3.

Palace never wanted to sell Guehi and Liverpool tried to get him on the cheap. I'm not losing any sleep over this. Things didn't go Liverpool's way, that's football.

The offer on the table for weeks was £30m from what I can see. The £35m offer was at the last moment.

I just can't see why Liverpool fans are crying over this. I would expect this level of entitlement from Man Utd fans.

Well that was the only point I was replying to. To suggest Palace didn't know the money was on the table for Guehi is more than a bit disingenuous when they had an opening bid for broadly what they were willing to accept weeks ago.

here
Having held club-to-club talks earlier this month Liverpool made a straight £35m offer to Palace for Guehi, which has remained on the table.

no ones crying fella, as said we'll come in later for him at a lower price or just wait until we get him on a free
