Surely already with the huge difference in fuelling costs it’s enough of incentive to go BEV? People buying a 80k car aren’t the main stream to target to move to EV either.

What you have above is trying to force people to BEV too IMO.
 
Clearly it isn’t because lots of people don’t even consider BEV and historically the premium for the BEV for a private buyer has been way too high.

You’ll have to explain that one to me as that seems to be the market most mainstream manufacturers have been targeting for years. They can afford to pay the premium for an EV over an ICE car and they are more likely to have the facility to charge it at home.

As for forcing people to buy new EVs, that’s the government policy isn’t it? They’ve done the carrot, it’s time for a bit of stick.

Profit margins is why EV manufacturers go for more premium. A lot have also reversed EV strategy. The rest really doesn’t need explaining.

Why you talking about historically. We are now on parity and you earlier said we aren’t in 2001. Well we aren’t in 2020 now either…

To be honest you’ve lost me on what you are trying to get at now. Ultimately demand is driven by the car and value. That’s the stick

Company policies may be the biggest driver. Our zenith scheme is BEV or hybrid only for example. BIK is massive on ICE anyway so would be far too expensive to be an option.

If there is enough demand manufacturers will be offering them (ICE) until 2035 in the UK, and I am assuming that you'll still be able to import one after that just not sell a new one in the UK. If you bought a brand new ICE vehicle in 2034-35 and it you keep it for 10 years until 2045 I am sure the BEV market will have fully matured and there will be more suitable offerings, after all people will tell you they are still in their infancy, so by 2045 they'll have had 35 years of market availability and improvements in whatever the negatives people have towards them, and if you just like burning fuel then keep the ICE for longer

2021 long range dual motor Polestar 2 with the Plus and Pilot packs. Bought i privately from the original owner who had the optional retractable towbar installed, and purchased the additional 3 year Polestar warranty prior to the original warranty expiring. This is transferable, so I've still got almost 2 years left for some peace of mind.

It has replaced my wifes 2013 Octavia VRS estate, which we'd owned for 8 years and stuck 80,000 miles on. So far we've put almost 1000 miles on it and its great. My F20 M135i has hardly been touched since getting it. Plan is to hopefully replace that with something along the lines of an Elise/vx220/MX5/Cayman next year

Such great cars for the money, 5+ years of solid service from ours. Amazing efficiency, 5.5-6mpkWh in this sort of weather (warm/dry(ish) done 220 miles on a single charge more than a few times, and took it down to 0% without an issue, still had 95.6% SOH as well.

Tip if you don't know/haven't read the manual yet, you can use the flappy paddles on the steering wheel to bring you to a full stop using the regen!
 
Im not pro or anti EV, I like petrols as much as EV. Diesels i hate with a passion, purely because of the smell and in the inherent unreliable nature of recent diesel.

What annoys me about the whole debate is the hate of EV's, the socials really bring out some real nastiness in people. No doubt theres some self righteous EV'ers aswell, but the hate seems to have become political as much as brexit.

Agree about diesel. I owned one once. Sold it after 6 weeks because every time I started it, I died a little inside.

I love all cars. EVs, big V8s, eco-boxes, they all have their place. If I was after a comfortable family car for the school run etc I would absolutely buy an EV, and I will be probably next year.

Yeah ive been really impressed with the efficiency so far, only done a couple of journeys so far bit they've all been around the 5.5 to 6 mi/kwh which seems really good considering my commute to work is a 60 mile round trip of dual carriageway and A roads.

It's showing about 180ish miles on a full charge after i reset everything i could after getting it, it does seem to go further than the range suggests at the moment, for example when i did a 60 mile round trip i only lost about 47 miles from the indicted range, i guess after enough driving the GOM will sort itself out to reflect how I'm driving?

The paddles are a really nice feature, can drive it mostly just on them which is fun for now, might get old after a bit but we'll have to see.

Did you try one before ordering? Has also cropped up on my SS and have to say I'm tempted, stupid cheap for something long range. Not many UK based reviews but seems popular in Australia and north Europe.
 
Just worth a mention if you are looking/know some one who is looking for cheap nearly new city car, lady I know just got a Dacia Spring 65 Xtreme on a 74-plate with 2k miles on it for £8850 from a Dacia dealer, ex-demo I believe, and the list on the forecourt was £10k+ so they are doing nice deals if you ask it seems.
 
The downside is you need to own a Dacia Spring - for £9k you could get a nice Zoe on a 22 plate and 40kwh Leaf's are dropping into £9k range now also. Sure the Dacia is newer but its not a nice car at all.

I don't think she cares, her old car was a Citroen C1 that was 20 years old and falling apart, she wanted a 'new' car from a dealer with a warranty that will be her last before she gives up driving or dies. Personally I don't think the Spring 65 Xtreme is terrible compared to the 45, assume you have driven one/been in one?

Nope - gone in blind. :cry: To be fair I have driven my wife's MG4 a fair bit so know how EVs feel and I did not test drive my 530e before buying (Cinch special).

I do about 40 miles a day round trip to work and back and mainly potter around town. I've decided I do not need anything too fancy, or with amazing steering or whatnot.

Good range, fast enough, plenty of boot space and good enough infotainment - it ticks my boxes. The reviews I have read put this betwen between a 6 and 8/10 with main draw backs being a fiddly screen. I'm comfortable with that though so not really a draw back.

Do you have a service centre nearby? I've never even seen one on the road so was surprised to see that there are two service centres quite near to home!

Nearest main dealer service centre would appear to be the other side of Guildford for me. I expect one to pop up near Gatwick soon though as a guess.
