Does anyone else wish that RGB would just die?

I think we have had this convo before :-) either that or my brain is that addled. Those were the days not like the nonsense the kids take these days. I still reminisce but know full well my body couldn't take it anymore despite remaining in good condition
aye we could well have had this convo before     indeed, there's not a chance my body could handle the weekends i used to have. in fact it sends a cold chill down my spine even thinking about it!

Personally when I've got the time to game I want it to feel/look like an arcade or whatnot, and the whole thing to be a bit of fun with RGB, gaming posters and the like.
Obviously it's personal to each and every one of us, but some setups look like what I'd expect a dreary soul destroying desk job to look like (which may be the case if one WFH).
Each to their own.

If you don't like RGB you can buy non RGB stuff - plus proper ARGB stuff can be turned off - so it's not like it's being forced onto people.

Cases have side windows - if you bought one with a side window you may be the type of person who wants to admire the internals - and perhaps want RGB.

Proper ARGB stuff can be turned off too.

Personally, my PC is next to my screen so if am playing a game or working - they are pointless - my case came with RGB fans that were 'always on' but I've replaced them with standard fans, the only RGB stuff it the ram but it's switched off.

But I use the PC for all my music so I would have loved chilling with the RGB on - it's something I'd like to do with my next build - this time I had a plan but then went with whatever deals could represent the best money saving and in the end it cost me more.

To be fair, people spend a hell of a lot of money on their PC, £500 for a GPU here, £400 for a CPU there, etc etc... it's great to see them taking an interest in the aesthetics and wanting to make the engine room look nice - when you consider that years ago a lot of people used to know very little about the internal side of their PC's and didn't even bother opening them up to clean the dust out once in a while.

I really don't care for it... If components I want, happen come with it, I disable it where possible.

Each to their own though, I really don't care what other people like or don't like, it's not like it affects me.

That's a whole other problem, the lack of cases without windows - sometimes I just want a plain case!

Yup

I remember when a side window was an optional extra on very specific cases, often you had to get the dremel out.
Now it seems half the cases on the market are glass sides/front and it can be hard to find one that is plain, solid metal (or the version that is plain metal is harder to find in stock).

I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting old and grumpy.

I was just looking in thermalright's catalogue and they offer glowing fans or non glowing fans for a bit less.

Meanwhile the people designing boxes to hold your computer parts have 100,000 tons of clear perspex sheet to shift and nothing is going out the door without at least one panel of it.

Each to their own.. :D

Personally I prefer the glow to any other lighting my house can provide to my office space.

The idea of being blinded at point blank range to the right of my monitor, is not something I consider fun or immersive when gaming or watching content.
It may look good in a photo as a 'flex' along with matching dim lit room RGB lighting resembling a cheap brothel in a rough area, but I value my eyesight and not being distracted more.
If it lives under the desk fair enough, but you can't see it, so what's the point?

I've always been a sucker for blinking lights. I don't know why but I can't help it.
Back in the day I'd buy all sorts of stuff, UV lights and reactive cable sleeve, anything that flashes.
I think it's much nicer now with the ability to have more subtle lighting though.
I like gaming in the dark with the lights of my PC :)

You could try what my late father did because he didn't care for windows either.

He bought a case where one side was just solid panel & contacted the manufacturer to see if he could purchase a spare (both sides where identical in size and fitting) They sent him one and he just replaced the window'd side.

Other than that there are numerous options such as applying a sheet of vinyl to cover the window etc

The GamersNexus video, featuring Wendell from Level1Techs, explains the security risks of the WinRing0 driver and its history as a critical component for the PC RGB lighting and fan control industry. For over a decade, many PC monitoring and customization applications relied on this single, old, and insecure piece of code for low-level hardware access.

I do like RGB and have made some very nice looking PC’s but I have just made an all back media centre and I do have to admit it looks very nice on my desk.

The one thing I don’t like about GPU’s is if you want the top spec GPU it comes with a load of RGB weather you want it or not.
If your the kind of person that doesn’t like RGB you have to pay for it and turn it off or get a very basic GPU

I remember growing up and seeing those high-end gaming rigs with vibrant rainbow lighting. They looked amazing! Now I'm older and if I could afford it, I’d buy parts without the rainbow effects and go for a different aesthetic. For example, I’d choose the Lian Li Lancool 217 in black (or its latest version) with Noctua fans. The brown and black coluor scheme looks sleek and stylish.
