Alien TV series (Alien Earth) : 2025

Ripley : How long was out, I had a terrible nightmare
Burke : 57 years. What was your nightmare
Ripley : That Prometheus and Covenant happened
Burke : Thankfully not, but whilst you were away earth had a total infestation of xenomorphs with billions dead. Earth is gone.
Ripley : Phew that's good news about Prometheus and Covenant
Burke : Yes it is.

boooooo

"No, Jonesy in Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) are not the same cat. While the character of Jonesy is meant to be the same individual, different cats were used for each film to portray him, and a different cat was also used to represent him in the sequels.2

I interpreted the apprentice being a bit thick as a consequence of him essentially growing up on the spaceship as a child. He must have been recruited very young. Maybe I'm giving the show too much credit as and they just wanted a near retarded English guy/actor.
Cryosleep doesn't age you does it so I'm dumb?
Just another what?why? :p
He's just a dumb apprentice thats all, for those of you old enough to remember, think back on just how stupid some YTS apprentices used to be :)

I prefer just to ignore that Prometheus and Covenant even exist.
Noah Hawley pretty much said the same on this weeks FX podcast. I'm paraphrasing but when asked about cannon he said to him the first 2 films where the Aliens are suggested to be the result of millions of years of evolution, not black goo and engineers.

Said Ridley's Prometheus origin is a different take and universe to his.

Personally good, I hate the Ridleys take with.a passion, it's far scarier having these creatures just existing, not knowing where or how they came to be.

Chat about cannon starts at 4.18

Did we get any resolution as to why Teng keep staring at Sullivan while she cryo-slept (apart from the obvious eye candy)?

From the first episode, and his behaviour, I'd assumed he was a synthetic - and perhaps there was some back story there.

We never actually saw his death, but get told of him being killed - so he must be a human then.

Yeah he acted like a synth, lack of emotions etc. How he walked out of the room, standing still (i thought he was literally standing over the tube during whole cyros sleep) And he made a funny sound with his mouth, I thought he was malfunctioning.

One problem I have with the overall premise of the Magniot is the 60+ year mission. This just doesn't feel right. How can you have an economy in the 2100's that has space travel taking decades, how can it possibly be economic and how can terraforming pay when travel times are soooo long. I know Ripley was in hibernation for 50+ years between Alien and Aliens but I put that down to it being an escape pod and not being found. One assumes Ripley for instance didn't sign up for a mission where she would miss the entirety of her daughters life, I had always assumed months or a year at most for the journey of the Nostromo.

But accepting the premise; Tang is a weirdo because they are all weirdo's I mean who else signs up for a 60 year mission where all of your Worldly connections will be gone by the time you return.

Well Morrow says, "you're still visiting her at night, doing your filth while she sleeps". To me this means Tang is spanking the monkey over her pod, ergo he is human? Just very weird.

The travel times would have to be that, they would need some way of travelling faster than light otherwise and we've seen no indications in any of the Alien IP that they have lightspeed+ vessels and yet none of the films would work if they didnt have lightspeed+ vessels, so this particular item is not the problem of the tv show, its the problem of every single Alien related thing we've had, its not a Maginot fault, its an Alien universe fault.

The answer to your 2nd paragraph is easy, someone who either has no worldly connections or doesnt care about them. Tang would appear to fit that bill. To be entirely honest, if you offered me a 60 year deep space mission, I would take it right now without any hesitation.

Edit: correction, there are actually verbal hints in the Alien movies that they have FTL travel, but those hints only serve to make problems with other things said in the Alien movies regarding travel times, so probably, like most sci-fi, its best not to overthink it :)

Even Current Yutani MD references that security officer Kumi was a good loyal person or something, highly regarded by her grandmother.... (It's silly)

I don't like these non FTL ship travels either unless it's an integral part of the story. (Which it isn't really... Other than to create isolation .)
Yes it might scientifically be realistic when it comes to colony ships and Terra forming missions. Great it works perfectly....huge time invested and distanced traversed. Fine.

To say to a crew go out and look for alien species and samples cya in 60 odd years..... How do your samples live for 30 years? Is just 1 of a million questions. The shear logistics of ship voyages. It's really science fiction. :p

60 year voyages would be 1 way trips.
Did people think than Magellan and Columbus would really come back? :p
And they where just 2 or 3 year expeditions.

Its all good it's making fun conversation.

Exploration in all scfi is fun stuff.

ah yeah good point, all those should have been put in cyro too, I guess the cylinders/glass cases have their own cyro systems.

Pretty lax bio hazard routine...no hazmat suits, food, drink etc, tranferring items from the lab to elseware duh

FTL isn't shown in Aliens universe, it's just a vague FTL name drop/
