EV general discussion

more stuff arrived from china today to make my M3 look more tacky
honestly, it's like half-price buying from AliExpress compared to sourcing the parts from the UK...and they all probably came from the same factory too!
yes the shipping is a bit longer, but for the price, i don't mind waiting
Model 3 please. Don’t use M3. Ruins a bmw name

How many mods can you do to the M3 is the question?

Have you purchased the interior LED lighting strip yet?

dammit, i've just tabulated the outlay so far... £494.88

the rest by far were pennies

The iX3 is an interesting car, but its definetly styled like a child that only a mother can love. 108kwh usable battery capacity certainly caught my attention, that should translate to a lot more range for caravan towing duties over the Y we have.

It's defo on my watch list for when the Tesla goes back although I am not sure how well the styling will sit with Mrs Sk8, then again she was the one who preffered the Model Y which isn't exactly a looker.

Edit: the charge port is on the wrong side :p

I just watched the latest Carwow EV range test and while they all got much better mileage than my 3 year old Polestar, the actual efficiency numbers were essentially the same - it’s just the size of the battery packs they’re squeezing in now has improved a lot and 100kwh is more the norm.

s3xy Idrive control is the biggest homage Model 3 owner can pay to 3 series.

Upcoming 800V version of the IX3 will be the towing onespice, that is a nice feature on the Xpeng LR.

They are all 800v, there’s no “upcoming 800V version”. Which Xpeng? You need to look at the towing ratings rather than the nutritional value of Rice Krispies.

Efficiency is improving.
Even Polestar improved the efficiency on the 2 over the years.

I had a launch edition P2 and best I could average was about 3.3 miles/kWh. I have an iX now (featured in that Carwow video). It is much bigger and heavier than the P2 and yet I can average 4.2 miles/kWh (*), which equates to about 300 miles out of the 71 kWh battery. (More than the WLTP, and that’s with A/C always running and 22” wheels)

For sure, this is not amazing, loads of EV’s get better than this, but for the size of the car - it’s up there.

This new iX3 looks like it’s even more efficient - probably touching 5 miles/kWh if you drive very sensibly. The single motor & smaller wheel version due next year will definitely push into the 5’s.

* trip computer measured, yep I know there are charging loses etc…to also include ! :)

My Kona 2021 had it's annual service (50000 miles) in May which included a free 'mandatory recall level firmware update' due to some potential for overheating and fire risk, the charging curve kicks in quicker than before.

In reality not really a problem for me, I've learnt it's better to stop early and charge often when on longer journeys instead leaving myself with only 5% left.

I don't have a drive and only use local Tesla chargers btw, charge once a week or when it's really cold, twice a week. The Kona doesn't do battery preconditioning AFAIK - for one thing I don't tell my car where I'm going, I use Waze.

Random charge times taken from the app don't really show much difference since I unplug at ~72% instead of ~78%.

before:
36 mins 33kw
37 mins 33kw
15 mins 13kw - maybe didn't drive as much that week

after:
43 mins 43kw
31 mins 28kw
29 mins 25kw

My future Macan will be quicker ;)
