EV general discussion

And don't come back :D
Literally felt that way. Got caught behind a crash on the way home so had a chance to set up all the streaming apps. Sadly just as I got it all sorted the cars started moving again

need to get the ball rolling on ordering a home charger now

Looking at a cheapish EV under £8k as a general run-around and don't need a great range for it. Was tempted by a Nissan Leaf, however I've read the Chademo sockets are slowly dying out. Are they worth considering still or just forget?

If its just for local running around and you can charge at home it shouldn't be an issue.

There's still lots of them out there but going forward there will be less and less but given the amount of Leaf's out there they won't all disappear anytime too soon, but would you really be road tripping in an old Leaf?

what about an ionic, the facelifted one.
a usable range and practical. start from around £8k albeit fairly high miles.

but maybe with a bit of battering summat like this? with lower milage (that said I would really worry about 75k miles in a car but less is better I guess)

I know you said low range isn't an issue but if you are not paying extra for it......

unless you really mean range is no issue and it's literally to the shops/school and back kind of thing then get an old leaf for under £4k with a 50 mile range...., no need to go even near 8k and I would not worry about chademo as you won't be fast charging it.

Even if you get a Leaf and CHAdeMO was no longer relevant you can get CCS adapters these days for them.

Loads of options under £8k, Leaf, Ioniq (28 and 38), MG5, Zoe, Corsa-E, eUp, E-Golf, BMW i3, and a few more. What are you looking for in a car, and what are you coming from?

Yeah to Echo bigmike i've recently got an Ioniq 38kwh and ive been extremely impressed so far, i paid £9800 for a 22plate with 43k on the clock so you should be able to get a 2020 model with higher milage for your budget.

They're WAY more efficient than the leaf even though they have the same battery size, you'll go a lot further in the Ioniq plus its CCS like all modern cars. I think Leaf owners seem to get around 130ish miles but the Ioniq seems to realistically give over 180.

Got my Elon-Waggon today.

Have to admit. I really enjoyed the handover process. Here’s your key. Goodbye!

Was the same for us at Arnold Clark getting the Corsa was in and out in about 10 mins. Getting the Hyundai took ages and they tried to sell every extra they had a few times.

Had a play with the new CLA 250 yesterday, both the basic spec and the top spec version. They only had it in that day so couldn't tell me much that I didn't know. Had a play with the new MBOX seems nice enough, but didn't get to drive it yet. I did notice it was at 54% with 230 miles left, but couldn't see what the miles/kW was though. Back seat wouldn't be great for 3 adults and anyone well over 6ft, also no real room under seats for feet if you have seat far back and at lowest height. The basic felt a bit cheap, but the top spec felt nicer than a model 3/ioniq 6 and didn't seem to have many expensive options, for example changing wheels is only £150. Looking forward to a proper drive in next weekend or weekend after. I also have a test drive for the MG IM5/6 next weekend be an interesting comparison.

Submitted the account change over, from Ovo to Octopus this evening. Spent last day or so comparing unit charges and other costs. Even though Octopus are about £10 more a month (£120 annually). When you factor in the EV charging at 7p vs nearly 25p and take that away from the total costs for our gas and electric, it actually comes out about £250 cheaper a year. Even after taking into account the extra cost. And, the new Ovo tariff is more than the current one so it was going up either way. I also had to consider if I ever move to an EV then charging two cars would definitely be a no no at 25p. Roll on October. :)

BMW IX3 neue klasse livestream starts any time now:

You know what, my initial reaction was a bit mixed, but having watched a few of the videos I think it looks pretty good. There's some logic to the design in that it's a throwback to the old cars with the narrow grille.

The interior certainly looks decent. Could be of interest in future, perhaps. Looking on the configurator you need to add a few options but nothing major beyond the M Sport Pro trim.

It's frustrating the they have opted to not include a Premium Plus option, or at least give you more options to chose from, the entry level spec is just not even worth considering IMO. Which colour did you look at, the one with the part white inside really opens up the cabin compared to the all black option which feels like a coffin.

I looked at a black sport with black/grey, and like you said i think the sport(base) is probably ok for company drivers but to basic for me. The AMG premium was red with a black/white interior looked very nice compared to sportline. I also liked the silver accents on top of the door handles that broke up the colour a bit.

I've had (two) gen2 now for nearly 5 years. If you can charge at home they are perfect.

I'd probably get the Tech Plus, Heated Steering Wheel and Parking Assistant Plus for the 360° cameras for me, They are so useful on my GV70.
