What do people think to these car competition sites I've had a dabble probably much chance as the lottery, it's a raffle after all.

A guy I went to school with won a cupra on BOTB a few years ago now, his video was all over Facebook at one point.

So far I've entered into these ones

Some real nice cars on there hoping one day I'll win.

Many years ago my cousin won an Astra which she didn't even take delivery of, she sold it straight to the dealer.

I keep getting these recommended on Facebook. The one most recommended is Classic Competition Company, which I dug in to and found all manner of dodgy stuff. If you look on their facebook posts, a lot of them say that they've had x amount of comments, but when you try and view them, they're all gone. This is what happens when the poster deletes comments themselves. They also keep pushing draw dates back on some of their competitions if they haven't sold enough tickets, something which is also reflected in a lot of their reviews.

I've also read that someone was busted listing a car as a prize, then on draw date refunded the money to the "winner" stating that the car was not fit for use, and kept everyone else's money.

I'm also far too sceptical to trust any of these clowns, they're all using a little "skill based competition" loophole by making you answer some dumbass question, meaning that the barrier to entry is anyone with a few quid to start a Facebook advertising campaign and a basic website.

Someone from one of the roughest estates in the area won a BMW M6 + £10K in cash.

I think he kept the car for a couple weeks max before it was sold on. A week later someone I went to school with from the same estate won £1mil on the Euromillions millionaire maker.

A guy from my town won a Lambo last year. He kept it for a month then sold it on to a dealer for more than the cash alternative.

It’s a no brainer really if you’re not already loaded. Cost to run and maintain is high and it will depreciate a lot. I’d rather sell it and be mortgage free.

These competitions are all crowd funding with only one real winner - the guys running the "competition". It's essentially legal gambling as they accept postal entries as a loophole. Don't know why anyone bothers.

Im not sure there all dodgy I know BOTB isnt school friend won on it there was Facebook video he still has the £40k Cupra and also won £20k on top.

They seem dodgy though at face value for sure, maybe some are and some are not.

I actually found the original article and video where he won the lucky git.

I live on the same road as the owner of one of these competition sites.... Let's just say the phrase "the house always wins" clearly applies to these online competitions as well.

I have won £20 in credit on Rev comps over 2 years from their free credit stuff. Only played once with my own money coz YOLO. I got more than double back from what I spent so no regrets.

Technically the credit is not mine, it is still in their account for me to spend on their draws but who cares. The free draws are guilt free.

They're not dodgy. The legitimate ones are a business and the goal of a business is to make money. The business model is that, because they accept postal entries, you can "enter" a "competition" via post for free. It's a loophole in gambling laws.

Most people enter online and pay to do so. They then raffle off the items, give away whatever it is but ensure they simultaneously pocket a massive profit. Some "prizes" (like win £500) are sold at a loss to drive usage and to generate a user base. The big profit items, such as super/sports cars, are where the business will usually pocket the best part of 30-40% the value of the car.

This business model has made a fair few people wealthy, and that's why you now see so many copies of this same model.

But you said in your post you dont know why anyone bothers but it clear (as I posted a winner above) some people are winning cars etc?

Sure the owner are making money like you say but I dont care tbh aslong as I go in for a competition and its legit chance of winning.

Out of interest how do they actually get hold of these cars as there not cheap Mclaren and Porsche etc.
