Home Assistant beginners

Can you manually turn on/off any Philips hue light, in my case a light strip. It comes with a plug, and I plan to set a timer in the Philips or Apple home apps.

But without going into the app is there a way?

Turn it off at the plug?

Yeah, but I plan to have it on a timer so it comes on in the evening so it will be off generally.
I just seen the switches so I will get one of them eventually.

I presume when it’s not synced with the app on timers and such turning it on/off at plug will be full brightness?

Why use a timer plug when you can use the in app/ on hub schedules?

The Hue bulbs remember the last setting that it was one and will default to that. You can modify that behaviour in the app but I’m a bit rusty there so can’t say what needs to be done.

Sorry for confusion, I’m not using any timer plug, I plan to use a time schedule in the Apple home app or Philips app?

But I may wish to turn on the lights out of this timed schedule, I’m guessing a hue switch is best bet.

Does anyone have any speaker they use that is local i.e not google and alexa to get alerts, i would be happy with just noise even but voice would be better.

I want to alert on if certain doors are open at night for example

Have you connected your Hue lights into Home Assistant? I've got a couple of Ikta Rodret (what a catchy name!) switches dotted around the house if I want to turn something on or off outside of a schedule or routine.

Not yet, will check them out, not in any rush, want to check it works before I think of a switch, but good to know, Thanks

What’s the best or easiest way to add people to the Philips hue system to control lights?
I have setup the hue app on one iPhone and all the system is up and running.

I would like another person to be able to control the lights via the hue app.

Should they just download hue app and use same login credentials?

I know there is something where you can invite people to join the hue system but does that other person require their own Philips hue account?

Apple HomeKit is another option, but want to concentrate on the Philips hue app for now.

Thanks

Would a Pi5 and one of these

be a good choice, i really would like poe but also be really simple to setup.

To be honest, I’m not sure I’d recommend a PI at the moment, they are just too expensive.

By the time you have put a POE hat on, bought some storage, PSU and case it’s a lot of cash.

A year down the line you’d then buy a NVME hat and SSD because your SD card corrupted from all the data writes home assistant does.

By the time you’ve done all that, you might as well buy a mini PC which comes with an Intel N150 processor, 16gb of RAM and a 500gb SSD for £137.

You can run home assistant natively or within a VM alongside other things like Plex, Adblock etc etc.

PI5 4gb and POE HAT £72 plus a cheap case. Thats all i would need i think. I want it separate from my server or id install it on my NUC but thats running Plex on Windows.
Its cheaper than the dedicated Green hardware. I just dont want something thats only just fast enough for it and leaves me no upgrade path.

Does the other member need their own Philips hue account or just app needed?
If I remember correctly, you need the app installed on the member device, and then when you add them (on your device)using their email address, it sends an invite to the members email account. member then will have to click on the link and follow the instructions.
I think it creates a separate account for the member, but you can put limited restrictions on the member's privileges.
