**** The Official Apple September Event thread - Tuesday 9th September 2025 @ 18:00 BST ****

They are very similar if you use the comparison tool on Apple.

I just had a look they certainly are, main differences I think is slightly bigger screen on the pro, also a sensor called LiDAR Scanner on the pro, no idea what that does.

So from what I gather it’s only the new air model that is eSIM, the other still have a sim slot.

Are the majority here on eSIM, wondering if I should convert my SIM card to eSIM.
I was on eSIM but then moved to Lebara who don’t offer it. It’s not a massive PITA but given the choice I’d rather have esim.
Hopefully the more phones that are released as eSIM compatible only then the likes of lebara will have to finally suck it up.

Similar here. Using a physical sim on my 16 pro. I don't see the advantage. Could someone enlighten me?
Having two SIM cards both working on the same phone at the same time. You can only do that with a physical and eSIM or two eSIMs.

Thanks - this spawns one more question :D can you "turn off" the business sim out of work hours, for example?
Yep. Although I have a VoIP number forwarding calls to my mobile and then when it is out of hours it goes to voicemail automatically. But that isn't an Apple thing it is a VoIP thing.

Yea I've got a work "landline" which is our VoIP system and I have the app installed on my personal phone with do not disturb hours set in that system etc.

I was just curious about the control on the second sim if work ever wanted me to have a "work mobile".

That's mostly just because the physical sim can't be stolen :p and convenient because it's "swapped" electronically.

Sorry this going off topic from the event, but if say you don’t have your iPhone with eSIM, how do you transfer it to new iPhone?
It looks simple with the side by side easy transfer, but what if that’s not an option.

You can manually turn eSIMs on and off but I don't think there is an automatic time based option.

Regular iPhone 17 will be enough iPhone for me. ProMotion display and 256GB default is nice. The Pro is ugly and heavy, and I don't see the point of the Air.

Was wondering why they didn't talk about the weight of the iPhone Air at all in the launch event. It's only 12 grams lighter than an iPhone 17 (177g). Sure the iPhone Air is much thinner, but will be interesting to see how it feels in the hand comparing both side by side.

According to Apple, the air feels like it’s not in your hand, you can experience this though quite easily if you walk down the high street in London.
