EV general discussion

I'm sure I read somewhere that empty bars create more drag than bars plus a roof box.

Probably depends on the bars (and a whole load of other variables!) I've not noticed much drop in range with my aero bars fitted on the Niro (although I do tend to take them off ASAP when not in use, so not a lot of data to make the comparison), but with the roof box on it loses ~20-25% at motorway speeds (although some of that is probably attributable to the increased weight since we only use it when the car is fully loaded anyway).

either way that is a real eye opener about how much effect just a fairly small addition to the car can make to the aerodynamics.

I would have guessed it would have been sub 5% loss

I barely noticed with a roof box on my IPACE as it was a relatively rural trip camping. I think the experiment declaring the huge difference as some other factor effecting consumption.

Nope - gone in blind. To be fair I have driven my wife's MG4 a fair bit so know how EVs feel and I did not test drive my 530e before buying (Cinch special).

I do about 40 miles a day round trip to work and back and mainly potter around town. I've decided I do not need anything too fancy, or with amazing steering or whatnot.

Good range, fast enough, plenty of boot space and good enough infotainment - it ticks my boxes. The reviews I have read put this betwen between a 6 and 8/10 with main draw backs being a fiddly screen. I'm comfortable with that though so not really a draw back.
Seems I also got one. Looks like the deal went crazy over the weekend over 700 applications for 40 odd cars. Luckily I did it on a hunch Thursday so I'm on the list! Just too cheap to ignore tbh, I don't even need a daily.

Was going to come back and update you.

Tusker are reporting it has been released from the factory and emailed my company yesterday to obtain authorisation for the dealer to deliver it to me. Looking like next week at the latest. Pretty excited now particularly as I sold my 530e and its being collected today!

Born V2 has been picked up and new Forest Green VZ delivered today. Will grab pics later but inside is much nicer with the seats and updated screen etc..

3yrs of the V2 58kWh 29k miles, 3.6m/kWh avg. with a lot of motorway use. Was a great car with a nice balance and fluidity on B roads and smooth and quiet on motorways, so glad I went for another, upgraded, version. Think the R5 is a downgrade.

Time has come to replace the wifes Clio (see other threads, not looking forward to sorting that out!). Went to test drive a R5 Techno Comfort last weekend, was very impressed with the little car. She's pretty much sold on it. She gets salary sacrifice through her job with Octopus, coming out at nett £350 a month deduction from her salary with an optional paint scheme, 6000 miles, insured, maintained, tyre cover etc (she doesn't like the 'free' luminous green paint!), ran it through my salary sacrifice scheme and the same car is only £250 a month nett for me, so looks like i'm getting another salary sacrifice car! :D

Was funny in the Renault dealer car park though, they were all more interested in having a look at my i5 M60 Touring than sorting customers out, the dealership manager even had a sit in it as he quite fancies getting one! :D

to be fair the R5 is a different class of car, and is significantly cheaper than a born...... but compared to a Zoe which is probably closer to the class of car the R5 is replacing i know which i would take.

if the Born is a "golf" class family car then surely the R5 would be more akin to a polo (or in EV terms the ID2 when it comes)

Well they were both £320 a month on the scheme so no different in cost, then i Yolod and took the 40k hit and got the VZ.

Cupra also seem to be operating in the 'good old' way of putting out high list prices and doing massive 'deals'.

If you search new cars on AutoTrader, you'll see plenty of listings for 59kWh V2s with anywhere between £7,500 and £11,500 off list price as an example, VZs with £8,000 off list etc.

Nice choice, I've had mine just over 3 months and have been really happy with it. If you can endure Facebook there's a good owners/enthusiasts group on there with lots of good info; I know a lot of people have been having issues with smart charging schedules for example, though I don't charge at home so I don't know the details. Apparently a software update will be pushed out in November to sort it though, so presumably it'll be sorted by the time your car arrives.

Random Q, do I need gap insurance on business contract hire? I usually do with PCP, but motoreasy said they don't do gap insurance for Tesla's.

No idea about BCH but I bought GAP for my Tesla via Ping Insure. They were about half the price for the same coverage compared to ALA.

I'm on Octopus Intelligent Go, car doesn't have to be charging, just has to be plugged in ready to charge to get the cheap rate for the house and/ or batteries - when Octopus calculates the schedule everything is at the cheap rate.

Are you sure? Didn't know that. Will have to run a experiment to see.

But I am guessingbif done too often they would eventually take issue

Yeah I got the same 'late september'. Looks like Westaway Northampton are the supplying dealer? I'm in no rush tbh, don't have a charger or anything but might just grab a 3 pin for now as I have an outside socket already.

Fingers crossed. It seems like a lot of car for the money, only downsides seem to be ride quality (tho some reviewers say it's great?) and dead steering. The driver assist and autopark etc. look really good.

GAP insurance on a used ev - is that a thing.

------

something else from stellantis to upstage r5/a290 sub £40K with the lsd/280 from alpha velocee - mokka gse
however no independent rear suspension bumpy corners & mini-roundabouts

I took out GAP when I bought my 1 year old Zoe, still a lot of depreciation to be had.
