*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

Sadly it isn't really god mode just shortcuts to a handful of useful actions - doesn't let you take control of the OS in the way a "god mode" should.

I dropped Windows 11 LTSC on my main rig having been running it on VM for a while to test, however, I was testing it on a work account, so OneDrive behaved, on my desktop it doesnt like my personal OneDrive..
Anyone got a tested fix?

After weeks of breaking my head about not only having to buy a new motherboard but also other peripherals to update to Win11 I finally phoned Overclockers support and was reassured that my motherboard
would support the update with some changes to the BIOS. After some research about what to look for in the BIOS I rebooted into the BIOS but typically could see nothing that appeared relevant until I saw something
called Intel Platform Trust Technology.
I did a quick google and it seemed that was the thing to enable. A WindowsPCHealthCheckup confirmed that the PC was now update compliant, I used the Update Assistant and it went smoothly. A couple of minor niggles, the driver gdrv2.sys was missing
but as that referred to the Gigabyte updater I wasn't too worried. DISM command didn't work at all but SFC/Scannow fixed some problem files so I'm happy.

25H2 release version now out in ISO format, general WU update out end of the month.

I've got the ISO, will probably install Friday like a maniac.

There does seem to be some issues related to credentials and other aspects of sharing with certain kb updates of Windows 11. I had an horrendous time with my newly acquired NUC 100, used with a DAS, when trying to connect to my main PC, also running Windows 11 24h2. No issues with Windows 10. Either refusal to connect, not finding the machine or credentials issues when it does see it. Then it will work for one direction of connection and sharing, not the other. RDP will work but not shares, security and other settings applied as appropriate.

Mine are somewhat sorted now, kinda hollow victory as I am not completely sure what of the many things I tried finally allowed access, and for that access to continue to work as needed.
There are a number of similar threads over at the Windows 11 forums concerning network shares and later more recent builds and updates to 24h2.

There are times that I dread Windows updates, home networking, for me anyway, is most fragile and often akin to being an alchemist in getting it to work.

Thank goodness, at times, for Macrium Reflect.

If I did not use Windows 11 for networking over the home, it would be fine.

Feels like Windows is going down hill to me.

They just heading in the wrong direction imo.

I'm not seeing a move in any direction with Win 11 really, it performs and is as stable as it's always been on my install.

Thats not the issue though, its more about MS pushing things on people that they don't want, didn't ask for and the stealing in one way or another all of our data, to either sell us things or to use our data to train Ai...

Sell people a basic OS and then let them put their own stuff on it, if you want to use the for guinea pigs, make it worth their while, dont force it on people or do it in the background with no way of removing or disabling it...

Of course, there can be implications for disabling updates, some advanatges though....

I had used this on Windows 10, quite successfully....

Exactly. Mrk does not want to see that or simply does not care.

None of that is what I am on about though, I'm on about just general outright performance and stability, and as a power user, nothing else matters as I have control over what's going on, as do most others here too really. Has anyone actually had to deal with recall being pushed onto their installs? I thought as much.

You are not acknowledging what is being said.

I am able to do all of what you say too. But why should I have to have recall on my PC? Why should I have to do work arounds to install my profile as a local user? Etc etc.

Hence it is going in the wrong direction.

Annoys me that you need to use third party software to make Windows updates behave - all I want is timely and low disruption deployment of critical security updates and the ability to properly and fully defer all other updates to a time that is convenient for me and be easily able to avoid problem updates.

The other day I had Windows pull me out of a fullscreen game twice, once with spinning blue circle cursor, and then I found it was doing background prep for upcoming updates... which "shouldn't" happen never mind it should not happen at all. I try to avoid taking the nuclear option to updates but it is becoming increasingly necessary if you actually want to use your PC for anything other than light desktop tasks.

You are wrong. Everything is perfect. Mrk said so :p
