Borderlands 4 (2025)

Thats just how gaming is now and its only going to get more and more that way, the days of not using DLSS or some equivalent are gone, at this moment in time its either get on board with that and get a GPU capable of something akin to it or give up gaming on new titles. The price of my GPU was a tiny price to pay for my main hobby in life tbh
Nothing wrong with dlss existing but nobody should be accepting cruddy optimisation and needing to use upscaling on a top tier gpu.
When companies release games in that state it should be normal to call it out not just say "that's just how it is" The only do it because enough people accept it and buy the products anyway.

"needing" is the key word there though, for example, I dont NEED to run the game with every setting on max, but if I do I can turn on DLSS and MFG and get 130 fps, which imo is absolutely fine. I literally cannot make the game run with any higher settings so yes I would expect to require all the bells and whistles to get that. I wonder how many people on Steam are downmarking it because they cant run it with everything at max, instead of accepting the option of simply dropping some settings to get the fps they desire. IMO, people are too stuck in the past , still expecting to play the latest titles with everything maxxed out, without them having to pay to upgrade.

I havent tried it with DLSS turned off, but I will do that now and come back with what my FPS is without DLSS but everything on max, will be quite a bit less I would imagine

EDIT : with everything still maxxed out but no DLSS (and consequently no MFG either of course), its 36fps, so that DLSS and MFG is worth almost 100fps, pretty huge gain. Like I say, the GPU I bought cost me £740, which is a small price to pay for my main hobby in life. If I assume that GPU will last me for 3 years, thats £246 a year or £20 a month. I'm fine with that price, I spend more per month on burgers tbh :D

I don't see any HDR options on the menus, where are they?
I had a config screen came up when I first started, had 2 white boxes on it and an option to select HDR on or off and then a slider to balance the two white boxes, havent looked since I started though to see if there are any additional HDR settings

So I switch on DLSS and MFG and get 130 fps and alls good, its what its there for, its not like I drive my hybrid car around town and dont use the EV mode to save fuel just so I can moan about fuel consumption :D

I too am glad that I can just pay more money for a more expensive gpu and then use a crutch to get usable frame rates rather than expect games that cost 60 quid to be developed properly.

Played 2 hours, the game is very fun but the performance is terrible.

I don't understand how someone can defend this awful launch, sub 50 fps with DLSS on very expensive hardware is UNACCEPTABLE.
Seems theres a huge drop in fps from 4k to 1440 then, I get 2.5 times as much as that in 1440, glad I got rid of my 4k monitor and went back to a 1440 ultrawide now. Though the 4k did look nice on games, just wasnt worth the fps drop.

Well theres 2 choices isnt there, I could simply not buy the more expensive GPU and not play the games that I want to play and sit around not gaming on the games I want or I could pay the tiny sum of £20 a month equivalent (and theres a ton of sites out there, as well as CC of course, where you can split the GPU costs over time) and be able to play the games that I want to play in the manner I want to play them. So option 1 allows me to keep my principals but I end up not doing my main hobby, which makes for a sad Tombstone, and option 2 doesnt in any way break the bank and makes for a happy Tombstone. I know which of the 2 options I picked :)

yeh im running it on 1440p as well getting around 60 some times higher, lowest i have seen is 55 fps.

enabling framegen gives a massive boost but its laggy on the inputs, i can play robo cop like that but not borderlands lol

I've got FG on x4 at the moment and not felt any input lag but I'll drop to x2 FG and see if I notice an input lag difference, might be one of those things where I dont feel it until I directly compare

What was your GPU usage at 36fps?
