Anyone got any recommendations for a electronic cat flap?

We're looking at putting one in our front door so in an ideal world it would be one that could work off her microchip. Door is kept locked with a key and we've got cameras, but would like to avoid any opportunists that want to maybe even look through it.

I feel like Amazon recommendations are just not what they used to be so just checking in here first...

Basic requirements are that I don't have to add any tracking device to her and that it can lock on a timer once she's inside at night / unlock in the morning.

Thanks in advance!

Just don't do what i did, bought a microchip one in white to put in a grey door. I spray painted the front of it and it was a really good match and i was really proud of myself BUT i ended up painting over some of the IR sensors which i didn't know about which then meant it ran out of batteries in about 3 days each time..

So i've just been using it as a dumb cat flap ever since :( what a waste of money that was

Edit: mines a sureflap one like above, works really well as long as you don't do what i did!

We have had this one for what must be over 10 years now. It uses the cats microchip to allow entry/exit and allows you to set lock/unlock times. The downside is that it uses 4x C cells which last for 6-10 months depending on usage. One of out three cats tends to sit outside looking in which means the sensor keeps unlocking the flap and wasting the batteries so for only one cat the batteries should last longer. I do want to replace it with one of their Connect series so I can see who comes and goes during the night as we have one cat that does his "call of the wild" thing for the warmer months of the year and only comes in for food or if the weather is bad, he is such a worry!!

My grand plans may have been scuppered by the budget set by the other half... I'm still keen on microchip compatibility at a minimum and good to see the Sure one getting good reviews from real people. Will see what I can negotiate! :)

Thanks folks!

We've got the smart one that let's you set curfews and see things on the app, had it since 2021. It uses my cats microchip to let him in. We don't bother setting any curfews though.

We did have one hiccup with it though, a neighbours cat tailgated our cat in. And it wouldn't let him out because it only opens for our cats microchip. That was an eventful night, it only happened once though years ago so the neighbours cat learned his lesson.

Just to add, I have this along with the smart feeders. I needed those because my boy would eat all his sisters food! So they can only open their own food bowls.

I think they're great, had mine 7/8 years or so and all good. Well made and I feel like I've had my monies worth if I needed to replace, but they're all working OK.

So, another recommendation and also a discount: https://www.surepetcare.com/en-gb/cp10

Don’t know how but I read the thread title as “smart flat cap” and was thinking to myself if there was such a thing

We don't set curfews either as my big boy can somehow open it when locked anyway!! We have had a cat chase one of ours in and get through the flap before it can lock quite a few times but ours will let any cat out chipped or not if no curfew is set which is just as well once the invading cat get's ganged up on by my three terrors.

OP, you really don't want a non microchip flap. They may be cheap but there is no way to keep any other cats out and the last thing you want is another cat coming in and eating all of your cats food or even worse spraying everywhere. We came home from shopping once and found a cat sleeping on the wifes pillow!! We knew him though and ended up taking him in a couple of years later after his owner abbandoned him. That was the trigger to get a microchip flap though.

We've had a sure connect flap for 6 years for our 5 cats, and whilst it has been great, ours seems to be dying as the inside sensors are failing. Just buying a replacement.

Word of warning though, the let in a draught as they are not airtight.

If/when it needs replacing, we'll probably go for one of the "smart" ones with prey detection, as a couple of ours like to bring "presents"...

That's a thing now? That would save many a sleepless night chasing around something small and furry that the heathens have brought home!!

They aren't cheap!

Or this one which looks like it installs into an existing flap:

Damn that would be nice. My cat has a habit of bringing in mice and letting them go. It's really frustrating. And since having a child we now lock him out to the rear hallway (where his cat flap is and just the downstairs bathroom), so if he does bring something in, it can't get into the main part of the house where my son crawls around. I do feel bad for my cat especially in winter, and especially because for 3.5 years he was always allowed in at night time.

That might be a good solution but the cost is too much.

Yeah, we were tempted until we saw they cost, we only get prey brought in a handful of times a year, normally they are just left in the back yard.

Im aure the sureflap above is the one we had.

2 cats, 2 chips, and im certain it had a timer on it so like they were allowed out before 10am or after 10pm

Is there like a deluxe version?
