Anyone here replaced the internal HDD with an SSD on their Xbox One S here?

Mines starting to be very slow booting and I’m keen to try this but I keep reading that Microsoft might lock out peoples accounts if they modify the consoles, which seems stupid in regards of replacing a failing drive.

Typically it's mods that cause piracy or cheating they don't like, it would be incredibly dumb of them to not allow you to repair your own console

Any modifications not officially supported by MS will trigger your console to be blocked.

Best to use the external drive or get the console repaired by Microsoft themselves.

I swapped the stock drive to a SSD on my One X I never had a problem with it and it was a fantastic upgrade :)
There are plenty of guides on YouTube explaining how to do it

Thanks thats helpful to know, yeah im not too concerned about the actual install process :)

Do you have experience of this happening or heard of it occurring? I currently have all my games on an external SSD which is fine but the console itself is slow and its not worth paying them to fix it over buying a Series S...but I like having the blu-ray drive so if I can keep it running well that would be a neater option overall!

I haven't myself but there is always a risk your console could get banned off Xbox Live if you play your console online.

But if you dont use your console online, nothing to worry about if you swapped the HDD internally. :)

You don't have to worry about getting banned or anything like that from upgrading the hard drive on a Xbox One S/X as Microsoft even provide the recovery images to perform the task, you would just void the warranty but let's face it that's probably long gone :)

When I had one I swapped the internal drive to an SSHD, didn't make a huge performance difference but it wasn't too difficult to get sorted and it worked fine the entire time I had it.

Thanks all, I may give it a go and see then
I look forward to hearing your results.
It made a huge difference for me :) I used to play a lot of Tekken 7 and the load times from spinning disk were insanely long but when I swapped the disk out for the SSD fights would load in quarter of the time :)

I have replaced regular drives a few times on Xbox one S, and have a SSD in my one X.

It is not that difficult to do, what I would say is when apart, I would be tempted to replace the thermal paste.
Ifixit is a good resource, just take your time.

I have swapped the HDD on my previously owned One S and X. At the time, i used a script that copied the contents of the HDD to the SSD and setup the proper partitions. The hardest part is that you literally have to almost strip the console.
