Haven't been up to London since before Covid so wanted to double check wife and my Oyster Cards still shown with credit on them. On going to log into the accounts, both come back as "Incorrect Details - Conatct TfL Customer Services. We cannot log you into your account." The email addresses and passwords are the ones we set the account up with in 2018.

I attempted to ring TfL but got passed around from pillar to post, eventually leaving my number for someone to call back - which never happened.

I mean I could just write them off as I gather (and correct me if I'm wrong) you can just use a debit card to tap on and off the tube and get the same price as the Oyster. However by my reckoning there is at least £15 left on each account and I'm loath to part with the money.

Just wondered if anyone else has encountered this situation or whether you have an idea which department at TfL I need to get through to.

Didn't they consolidate/merge oyster cards in the past ten years? I thought cos it effected me ... Actually I'm not even sure tbh. I merged 5 or so together once cos I had so much spread out

Tap PAYG these days

If the balance is negligible on the cards, then scrap it and use contactless instead. Card / phone / watch - all work. They'll also cap at the appropriate rate so you don't have to worry about spending too much.

Just don't tap in and out with different cards as you will be charged the max on both cards. Only an absolute moron would do that *whistles*

Yes, you can just tap your phone or smart watch to use it. I too have an Oyster card, in credit that I haven't touched in like 10 years...

They must have made millions from people with this as people just write them off.
Yep, exactly in the same position. I don't even know where the card is, might have given it to my exgf. They're probably making millions off the interest.

They probably changed their T&C to say they can keep it after card inactive after x period…

People still use Oyster cards?

Some people may worry about having their phone or card snatched and prefer to use a travel card. Googling it some people prefer it to manage their budget and it is easier to get issues resolved on the spot using an Oyster card vs other payment methods.

Well, well. On a hunch I decided to try resetting the passwords and what do you know, that plus setting up two step verification has restored access to the accounts.

£10.20 on each card so that's enough for 3 x Zone 1 single fares before topping up.

Probably should have tried that before whinging but it's not as if the website tells you to reset your password and set up MFA or anyone that I spoke to. Going to have to take another trip up to London now just to get some tube "thrash" in!
