Mountain Biking

Swapping pretty much everything. My dream build sort of thing.

Swapped my wheels, Drivetrain, rear shock and cockpit yesterday. Fitted my front Shigura brake today. Couldn't find my internal cable routing tool thingy so not done rear brake yet.

Got new red lowers for my zeb ults so will be doing lower leg service and swapping lowers over tomorrow then fitting the forks. Then just the dropper and rear brake to do. I'm dropping it off to have ride wrap fitted tomorrow so trying to get as much as i can done before then.

decided to try the radial tyres too

I thought I had.

My day was split into 3 rides for some reason so i must have pressed something wrong.

First run down recorded ok. The rest did not.

Im annoyed as i was at dirt farm last week and intended to try it out there before the Dyfi trip. But I forgot to take it in my hurry to get there for the evening uplift start.

ahh well, will get used to it.

Have you had another go at using DH mode yet?
Hopefully going to Stiniog next Friday.

no not yet. Im not doing dyfi again until October.
Everything im doing inbetween is ebike not uplift.

im at Forest of Dean tomorrow.

I might try doing some of the downhill tracks and cycle back up with it in downhill mode see how it behaves.

ive still not been to Antur

Love Antur, the uplift is insanely efficient, zero waiting around just straight back on and up you go. They don't keep it as groomed as they do at Dyfi so it rides a bit more technical for the most part.
I decided against Dyfi seems a waste when I get a free day there each year anyway as an owner.

I am tempted by the S200 as my next purchase. If i get one im worried i wont use the merida which ive spent a ton of money on.

I have been to Dyfi 5 times so far this year  love it

I bought an E-MTB last week, a Whyte E - 505 however I think I accidently bought a size too large (XL) when I should have got something around Medium at 5.9' , 5.10' . How would I be able to tell if the bike is too large for me? I have noticed my arms and hands hurting after a while but dont know if this is due to not being used to riding a mountain bike.

anything I can do to make this a better fit? doubt the bike shop would let me exchange it as I've already used it

The manufacturers have sizing guides.

I’m the same height and my bikes are medium. Whytes sizing shoes an XL being for 6’2” and up.

Edit sorry not very helpful.

You will want to do anything that can reduce the reach. Seat as far forward as it can be and stem as short as it can be.

Medium, large. Arbitrary designations, size your frame based on the geometry, reach, stack, top tube. You can't change a bike fit by moving the saddle, you alter the saddle to position your knees correctly for pedaling.

Im going to take it back to the bike shop and ask if their are any changes they can make to make it a better fit

What made you get an XL?

I went to get a bike and was recommended this one as it was on discount and within my price range, completely forgot to ask about the size. I dont think height is the issue as its the same height as my cube hybrid, its the handlebars it feels as though my hands are slightly bent or tilted when holding the grips and the handlebars feel really wide apart.

Also carrying a backpack with my laptop, keyboard, work clothes , power sockets, towel and showed gels etc probably adds a lot of weight, If i can get a removable pannier rack for it then it would probably be a lot better.

Sounds like they just wanted to get rid of that bike, an XL is almost certainly too big for you at 5'10".
I'm the same height and aim for around 470mm reach, 600mm top tube, stack 620mm minimum.
Often either a medium or large, usually find it's right in the middle between the two and only the likes of Trek with a M/L have the correct size.

It's worth finding out the numbers you like and you'll never again get the wrong size bike.

Changing the saddle position won't affect the reach but can mess with pedaling and cause knee pain if set wrong. Reach is measured from the BB position vertically.

Does sound like the shop just wanted sell and forget. Definitely shouldn't have been suggesting a XL for you given your height so I'd definatey go back and complain to see if there is anything they are willing to do.
Saying that though a quick look at the geometry and the reach isnt that huge for an XL at 479mm. Depending on the head tube you might be able to fit a reach adjusting headset to shorted the reach a little bit and or a shorter stem to bring the reach back further if needs be. Though the symptoms you mention may be able to fixed by changing the handlebar position, rolling forwards or backwards in the stem or raising or lowering the brake levers to adjust the angle our wrists are at.
If the bars are too wide, cut them down. Handlebars often come 780mm to 800mm wide and are meant to be cut down to fit the rider. I'm at similar height to you and run my bars at 760mm wide

It was purchased from Evans cycles using a cycle to work scheme, I have been into the bike shop a couple of time since and they have said to bring it in so they can check everything, yeah the bike shop should have checked the size and I should have remembered to ask but I think as long as I can get the reach down a bit it will be doable. ill ask them to adjust on Monday but apart from the reach/handlebar problem cant really complain about everything else. I think for the price range I was looking at (around £2500) it was the best one they had so that's prob why it got recommended

Had a go of Amflow Pro at Glentress today running NZ firmware so speed limit raised to 28mph, mental on the uphills on Spooky wood climb I'm sure I saw 20mph+ Battery life was excellent recon it could do four full red route runs comfortably.

Not sure the frame/suspension is up to the weight/speeds felt my Ibis Ripmo was better handling and absorbing the landings/bumps but I must have been doing a good 10mph + for the full run so not sure what a Ripmo would fell like at the same speeds as I'm not fit enough

Sold me on the motor just need more bikes to come out with it as I recon there will be a better handling one.

Forbidden Druid CorE / LitE, Unno Mith and the Commencal Meta Power SX Avinox are all DJI-equipped, but good luck finding one before March next year.

That said... I do know somewhere that had a Druid CorE in S3 for sale and three slots left for the next drop around Christmas, but those are all likely gone by now.
