*** The Official iPhone 17 thread (it has new camera bumps and everything!) ***

I’ll be honest, the biggest bug bear at the moment is the aluminium chassis and the reports of it getting scratched so easy (I’m a stickler for enjoying my tech in good condition and the titanium chassis of the 15 pro max has served me immensely well over these past 2 years despite the heavy abuse)

Obviously knew it wasn’t going to be leaps and bounds in terms of upgrades, side by side you just wouldn’t know you have a different phone, but finding it a very underwhelming “upgrade”

Thus thinking at the moment about either returning and keeping the 15 pro max or exchanging for the air. At this moment in time if I’m upgrading, I think I would prefer to downgrade and get the air but enjoy some kind of new tech, be it slimmer with less battery performance.

Very much my though. Fancy trying a thinner phone with brighter screen and centre stage front camera for FT. The back cameras don’t bother me much these days

Seems like a waste of money unless you have the cash to burn. Next year we might get the fold/flip, possibly a better Air 2.

At least the current Air has 12GB of RAM so sort of AI future proof but otherwise all you’re getting is a thinner phone.

I’m waiting for the hype to die down. There’s a relatively sizeable upgrade in it for me going from 13P to 17P and even then the daily usability is almost identical.

My quick thoughts on the Air. After using it since about 2PM and pretty must spent most the rest of the day setting up from scratch and also using it for FaceTime calls , a hour or so of Waze , lots of WhatsApp etc etc.

I’m coming from an iPhone 15 Pro and I have used a Samsung S25 Edge as well.

The Good Things

The wow fresh form factor of this phone. It’s different in a good way, something about the weight make it so balanced in the hand. It’s not too heavy at all.

The screen size at 6.5 inches is perfect for me. Coming up from my 15 Pros 6.1 inch is a big change. That 0.4 screen size difference is night and day on the eyes, but I guess it is also the iOS26 as well as I only stuck with iOS18 on the 15 Pro

Battery life, should be doable for a standard day for me as I used about 46%, but I have been on it almost constantly. I expect this to improve.

The Bad Things

The Camera Control button. Pretty much I believe is pointless and it is far too sensitive. So I have disabled it for now as you can’t seem to change it to something else like the action button.

Noticed it getting warm on the top as expected but seemed to be ok now. I’m assuming it is just doing a lot of processing whilst me setting it up.

So far I’m happy with it, my friends have all gone for the 17 Pro or Pro Maxes have been pretty disappointed to a fact that one of them is returning theirs.

Looks like EE fixed their eSIM activation issues, managed to download a new eSIM this morning via the app.
Im on EE and i had no issues transferring my eSIM from my 15 Pro to my Air, but i guess a direct transfer isnt the same if you are going through the EE carrier.

I had it fail via quick transfer, then multiple times trying to manually download eSIMs and activate failed, then the app stopped allowing me to download new eSIMs, so there was definitely a problem, tried again this morning and it worked perfectly.

Few people over on MacRumors also had issues.

I let the phones do the EE eSIM transfer themselves. I went from a 14 Pro to the Air in less than 5 min… boom, signal on the Air.
