*** The Official iOS and iPadOS 26 Thread ***

I get the felling it'll be tweaked over the next few point releases. At the moment this is just the first full public release so lots of time to improve things.
I hope so. It’s disappointing. Sometimes if it ain’t broke…

I haven’t found anything that’s actually an improvement or better way of doing things yet… isn’t that the point when pushing a redesign? :(

To me, it's the same, but a different look, and not much more. I feel like the rounded sections of the UI actually serve to reduce the usable space of sections displaying text compared to before. Things feel a little bit more cramped and closed in.

I think the only thing that really jumps out to me is the little flash of colour you get in longer liquid glass elements like the Safari search bar. That's pretty neat - they should gone with like an ionized gas (plasma) look but I guess they couldn't call it Plasma because of KDE Plasma on Linux. I also like the animated backgrounds in Messages and the Phone app on my iPad. That's all I've really noticed so far. :D

I really find the UI for tabs a whole mess and less intuitive. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I keep getting the keyboard stuck on screen. I'm sure before you could simply scroll and it would disappear, but now I can't get it off the screen.

In the music app, I don't like how the 'home buttons' hide after scrolling, and you have to click the icon in the bottom left to show them again. Generally finding many things take a couple more interactions than they used to.

Other than the MUCH larger (and better) icons for the alarm (snooze and off?), I'm not really seeing much benefits on the whole.

On my 15 Pro I’m finding it’s not as polished. Unlocking the phone sometimes there’s a small delay before app icons pop in. Scrolling in Safari has micro shutters. Sometimes opening an app I get full screen pink for a split second. Keyboard lags as it appears often. Swiping between Home Screen pages has some weird lag to the start of the animation. I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.

Sadly Apple getting their customers to QA public releases rather than dealing with that during the beta/RC stages seems to be their MO for the last decade or so.
No doubt it's all due to their absolutely baffling need to pump out a major every year

Certainly there's some oddities with iOS 26 but it mostly seems to be superficial. It's no way near as offending as MacOS 26, which quite frankly looks like ****.

Same for all of those and I’m in the 17 Pro! So it’s not down to being a slightly older processor, I’d say.

A particular annoyance of mine is when you press on the url/address bar (when it’s shrunk down from scrolling down a page a bit) there’s a strange horizontal scrub bar or animation of some kind for a split second down the length of the screen. It’s really shonky.

Also, going out for runs without my phone as usual, using my Apple Watch seems weirdly torturous. I add music to my watch the night before normally, a playlist or whatever, go to select it on the watch just before I start my run in the new music shortcut /flow and it doesn’t find the music and suggests playlists which aren’t even loaded on the watch. So you have to remember which ones are and aren’t loaded on it, as well as some not even showing up at all with no way of finding them unless you go into the ‘proper’ music app section rather than the workout app, which negates the point of it.

Did they actually test anything?

A minor thing but I can find how to change it. Before the update the text name under all my apps was white, subtle. Now it's black and I want to change it back to white but my google skills aren't finding the answer. Can this be done? I can find where to switch dark modes etc but nowhere to customise the writing under the app tile.
