Windows 10 ESU

What issues did you have?
Just ran very sluggishly particularly on startup. All updates were done but it just didn't seem as fast as 10.

At least now there is a 12 month stay of execution or by then I will have sufficiently persuaded the missus to let me buy a new PC. To be fair, this old potato and Win 10 runs most of what I play more than adequately, the only slug being Dovetail's Train Sim World but that's down more to poor coding and/or inefficient use of UE4.

Summary

  • Microsoft offers free Windows 10 security updates for one year to US and European users before support ends on October 14.
  • European users get free updates by logging in with a Microsoft account, addressing advocacy group concerns about forced upgrades.
  • US users can get free updates by uploading profiles to Microsoft's backup service or using Microsoft Rewards points.

still a no for me, i have no interest in logging in to an MS account

I updated my old "main" PC this evening, and because I used the same MS account to login that i'd previously used for another machine which has enrolled in the ESU, it automatically enrolled that machine to the MS "Oops, we've misjudged our userbase, let's just kick the can down the road for another year whilst we come up with something" extended update scheme.

There is so much push back from the public, I see MS extending this past another year.

All part of their plan to get people onto their subscription model by having an MS account as an requirement.

Until game developers stop using Directx for the game development, they aren't going anywhere. If Nvidia and AMD decides to stop releasing drivers for a Win10, everyone else will just follow.

Nvidia already announced that didn't they? No more driver releases for 10 after october from then it'll be 11 only its the thing that puts me off grabbing ESU its the hassle with this sort of stuff

Im sure they did.

But that's an example of, you can hang onto Windows 10 as long as you want but soon as the 3rd party companies pull their support. You have no more options.
