Hey guys,

I have noticed when I power on my machine, there is a single solitary click, kinda like the PSU can make as the PC powers off..

is this normal? no issues what so ever, system running beautifully.

My PSU is a NZXT C1200 Gold rated PSU.

Cheers guys!

Yeah, I have the newest version of this PSU (the ATX3.1) and it does it too. I did wonder if it was more my case though, as I swear my last PSU did the same, which was a different brand?

just out of curiosity , what GPU are you running on the PSU?

Sorry to triple post, I forgot to say, when he brought his rig round to show me his case clearance, he owns the older C850, which is what made me tempted to try your one, when going through my recent RMA issues with my previous brand PSU.
Anyway, TLDR, I can confirm both his C850 and this brand new C1200 ATX3.1 of mine, both do it.
It must be a Seasonic thing - I believe that's who makes it, IIRC from what he said about his, but don't quote me on that, the C1200 might not be, I haven't checked TBH, I just know it reviewed very well ;)

PSUs can click for a number of reasons, but there is also hardware like soundcards (one of the most common), some types of network cards or high speed storage controllers and so on, which use relays which will click when the system is powered up. (Though depending on settings it is often as the OS boots where the relays click to their configured position under software control rather than at power up).

I don't have any of those things, so it's definitely just an NZXT thing :D

Antec ATX3.1 mate (it is in sig if visible).
Niiice, get your NZXT out for the LADS!

Right now, nothing can touch you, me, and @Zeebedy with our NZXT bathroom washbags IYKYK, anyone else, is merely a peasant!

Yeah my bad, it's literally written right there, I just got so excited with the NZXT brotherhood/bromance going on, that I jumped the gun!

Yes. Is normal to click once, when turned on and off.

I don't know that much, but I think it is part of the inrush/surge protection. At least that's what Corsair say:

Most of our power supply units (PSUs) have an inrush current bypass relay that makes a *click* noise when the PC turns on and off. This is considered normal and not a defect.

If your PSU is making loud repetitive clicking sounds after you turn your PC on, contact Customer Support.

Yeah, when it turns on/off, I forgot to mention the off part. My mates C850 was the same.
I must say I quite like it, like with the Apple 'bong' noise when they turn on, it's one of those weird things, like how a decent keyboard/mouse sounds? I need to get out more :P

Ahhh, so I was right, that POS Corsair I just RMA'ed was doing it too, maybe that's why I'm subconciously used to it now that I have the NZXT ;) that makes so much sense, I knew I didn't imagine it!

So @Firegod @Zeebedy I think we should arrange to go out on the town and 'flex' our NZXT purple washbags
I mean, women will literally run infront of traffic to see them!

Did you both find it hilarious BTW, that the PSU itself, also came in it's own little material house :P which lives inside a bigger styrofoam house  and then the washbag just sent me over the edge :D

your crazy dude!

your crazy dude!
I should be on their packaging design team, clearly :P

Don't lie, you did laugh when you unboxed it, the lil' PSU house that opens like a square envelope, was completely unnecessary as with the washbag, but I love the thought that went into it
It's never going to get used, but it's the thought that counts, right :D
