What film did you watch last night?

The Substance - solid 7/10. The longer it went on the crazier it becomes. Very decent on the special effects. The last section of the film proves that the French do have a sense of humour :)

Nosferatu

Meh, critics loved it, for me a bit of a zzz fest, over 2 hours of a story about a vampire (with the most stereotypical vampire voice you could imagine) wanting to pump Lily Depp. That was pretty much it....

Agree - I found it quite tedious…

… but I did enjoy that even the mighty, lord of darkness Nosferatu has to respect the formalities of a real estate transaction.

“I swear”.

I watched the documentary over a decade ago, so was familiar with John.

Great film, very emotional. I laughed, I cried. Recommend.

I think that thing he signed ended up being a document to take his wife's soul or something like that. Think old creepy mentions it later in the movie.

It struck me as much more an exercise in style than anything else.

We watched two movies recently at completely opposite ends of the feel good scale:

The Days Ahead which dealt with three different stories on the preparedness of three groups of people dealing with a nuclear attack on the UK. This really was a low budget production and it shows in everything from the effects to the poor acting and storyline with an ending that really left the viewer thinking is that it? The only movie of this genre I could compare it to would be Threads which is over 40 years old now and that's still far better than The Days Ahead.

And the ultimate feel good movie at the cinema on Saturday night was The 60th Anniversary of The Sound of Music which really is an absolute masterpiece of a musical. The epic shots of Salzburg and the mountain scenery looked magnificent on the big screen. This really is a timeless classic.

We watched The Anatomy Of A Fall on Netflix. A man falls out of a window and dies, but did he jump or was he clubbed over the head and pushed out by his wife? It’s a pretty sedate investigative courtroom drama type thing. It’s very well acted and it does a good job of remaining very ambiguous throughout and doesn’t really reach a clear conclusion on what happened.

Some of the court proceedings seemed a bit sketchy mind you… maybe don’t watch it with a lawyer…

watched Love Hurts.
Just your average action comedy and pretty mediocre.
Was nice seeing Ke Huy Quan and Sean Astin on screen together again though.
5\10

Mickey 17 - 6/10

Weird as you'd expect from Bong Joon Ho but all over the place. It dabbles with lots of genres which I feel will leaves everyone unsatisfied. Bit of the film are 4 or 5/10 but bits are 7 or 8/10. Very uneven and unfocussed.

I saw that in the cinema with the wife. She enjoyed it more than I did. It was kinda all over the shop. Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette were bonkers. Parasite was a far superior film from that director. Snowpiercer was also better. If you want the cloned people angle, watch Moon.

Good shout on Moon.

Sam Rockwell isn't in enough films.

Nobody 2 - 7/10

No, it wasn't as good as the first. Yes it was silly to the point of farce at times. Yes, it had every trope and cliche under the sun, and seemed to steal scenes from many other films but it was entertaining. We were obviously in the right mood for this as we laughed throughout.

It wasn't trying to take itself seriously at all, everyone seemed to be enjoying doing it, that came through and we enjoyed it for the fluff it was.

Monkey Man - 6.5/10

Back to back action films, this is an Indian John Wick with Dev Patel as the main lead
and this is where a technically better produced film, with a better plot and acting just wasn't as entertaining as the previous one.

Colossus The Forbin Project - 7/10

I cant believe I've never even heard of this, which for 1970 is an amazingly portentuous piece of Sci-Fi. Obviously you have to take into account it's over 50 yrs old, but really quite impressed for what it was, they even portrayed people having mobile phones.

My favourite bit of dialogue:

"When will you be ready to try and overload the program?"
"18:05, 3 days from now on the 21st"

That was rather specific! :D
