Bit by a spider!. (in the UK)

Well... reading this thread has me closing all my windows until spider season is over
well the good news (for me at least) is my hand is almost back to normal now. still a little bit warm and tender, but nothing worse than a nettle sting now and the blister has gone down.

if it is another 49 years before i get another bite, i will likely be dead by then and wont care :)

I like spiders, always have and feel they get a bum deal. now flies....... they p... me off no end. I dare say (with no stats to back it up) more people get sick from manky blue bottles landing on food than spiders (in the UK)... and those chiggers or what ever they are which live in long grass in summer / autumn . they bite me to hell every damn year as well.

No, when you are as skilled as me with an empty hummus container, one is enough.
Sleight of hand!

Wasps/hornets on the other hand, can **** off.

i have only ever been stung on 1 occasion. unfortunately it was over 30 times. i was a tweenager and fishing with a friend and sat on a wasps nest. luckily i was not allergic to them or i would have been in trouble.

my uncle got stung on his face by a hornet (iirc it was his eye) and whilst i was not told the gory details i believe it was quite serious at the time.

generally though i firmly believe if you dont agro them they wont sting you. my wife on the other hand goes full on panic mode and flaps at them, and likely encourages them to sting her.

I do worry what would happen if she was driving and a spider/wasp/bee or what ever took her by surprise.

Spotted a false widow inside, they are quite common, went to get a glass for safe removal and when I got back a daddy long legs had already started wrapping it up, left them to it :D

I recommend you adopt a simple spider policy of crush on site.
The ones that make webs deliberately at head height across gardens should be killed with fire.

Oddly I didn't see many of them this year, I forgot the name of this particular spider, but they normally put up their webs face height around the garden in late summer I think, not noticed any at all, at least none that I would have normally face planted in previous years.

Cleaned out the garage last week and swept away all the cobwebs including door frames, which made my skin crawl. I kept thinking I’d disturb a nest, so I was ready to leggit.

Surprisingly, I only found one large house spider, which has now taken up residence in a clean corner!

Two house spiders also invaded the lounge. One came in the other night, and I managed to cover it with a pint glass just big enough without trapping its legs—it was huge! I tossed it out into the garden. The next night, another, slightly smaller one came in, following the exact same route—maybe tracking the scent of the first? It also got ejected into the garden! I can’t remember if the smaller spiders are males, females, or juveniles.

I don't bloody believe this...... I got bit again by another spider tonight . unlike the last one which I didn't feel at the time this one felt like a nip however unlike last time my finger has not reacted at all so I don't think it broke the skin. Google fu shows this one ( edit... more Google fu ). almost certainly a tube web spider.

but FGS. this is silly. never been bit before and have handled 1000s of spiders and now 2 in 2 days.

How has it happened again so soon... did you try to pick it up or something?

At this rate, you will become Spider-Man soon
;)
It'll be worth it!

Stop picking them up like a mad ****. My wife does that then drops them and they run under the bed or non moveable objects which annoys everyone even more, all in the name of preserving the nasty monsters. It's not like we've got a spider shortage.

am not gonna kill them but I may have to start messing about with a glass and paper. something I always thought was ridiculous in the UK.
dunno if it's just stupidly bad luck or if the numbers and ratios of bitey spiders is changing. having chatted with friends about it over the last few days more of them claim to have been bitten in the last few years despite never happening before

It's time to tool up!

Not destructive enough, I cannot see how I can burn everything in sight with such a tool...

I get some large spiders based on living opposite a woodland area with marshland. As a result always got a heavy duty fly swatter at the ready to smash bugs out the air, or smash spiders into the wall....
My cat is useless at hunting spiders.
