I purchased this card last week (not from OCUK), customer has been using his pc with no issues for a solid week.

Sunday evening I received a message from him to state that the pc set on fire and was smoking through the top of the case.

Today, I take a look and sure enough it's the graphics card at fault. The issue isn't at the power connector, it's a part of the VRM circuitry (nearest the HDMI / Display Ports).

Obviously this is under warranty so I'll be sending it back, but it makes me reluctant to replace it like for like. This is extremely bad form from Nvidia.

I can't find it now but I saw a video pop up in my YouTube recommendations of a Gigabyte Gaming OC 5090 catching fire recently. Bit concerning.

One thing I would say though - as someone who has built for and supported a lot of people when it comes to PCs over the years it isn't uncommon for people to do things like spill drinks on their PC causing issues like things catching fire, and then deny it :s

EDIT: Quick Google suggests it may be a MSVDD supply rail failure for the VRAM power - without doing more digging I believe this is where too much power is being drawn from the PCI-e slot for some reason, which shouldn't happen.

Gigabyte graphics cards have had quality control issues for some time now, hence the disappearance of their rep on here.

I'd choose a different brand.

There have been concerns with certain models (i.e. the Eagle cards) and globally Gigabyte isn't exactly renown for quality control, but mostly we get good quality products from Gigabyte in this country.
