EV general discussion

Thanks for this! Seems roughly comparable to the fleeting time I had a Tesla Model 3. I travelled back from Derby in that and it started at 300 miles and did a very good job with its range calculations. I'm sure this will settle and recalibrate in due course.

Make sure you are comparing like for like.

The MY25 polestar has both a bigger battery and more efficient motors compared to the older versions.

200-220 miles real world from the old long range polestar 2 was normal if I recall correctly.

Charger installed and E-On next all set up but even when I put the charger into the manual mode, charging doesn't start. Am I doing something silly?

If you are using the charger to control charging, make sure your car is set to just charge whenever it receives electricity up to its set charge limit.

Hypervolt 3 Pro

Installed whilst I was at work but I can't imagine it being duff so wonder if it's just because I've just set up E-On. But would've thought it being in 'Plug and Charge' mode would just charge it anyway

The charger is definitely detecting the car as it shows up in the app but just no power going to it. Not sure if I should just wait a bit longer. Of course I let the car get down to 15% as I thought I'd be able to charge it up reliably tonight :o

If you have smart charging enabled, you need to tell it to charge in the Eon system.

That’s how it works elsewhere anyway, I’ve not used the eon smart tariff myself.

I dont know how the e-on system works but with ovo energy i just tell the ovo app to charge the car and the hypervolt takes its commands from this and
away it goes.

Yeah tried the boost mode within E-On which overrides the schedule. On the phone to support but they think it could be the voltage.

Looks like I'm back off to a supercharger after all

This is partly the reason why I have stuck with octopus despite their rates not being quite as good as Eon’s lately.

Intelligent Octopus Go has had its issues in the past but the last year has been absolutely solid.

That and Eon are stuck in the Stone Age when it comes to solar exports.

6 monthly payments with no option to net it off my account via smart meter readings …urgh. They even used to send you a cheque in the post to pay you…

I’d have to pay them £200/month for them to pay it back (and a bit more) 6 months later. What year is this again?

Octopus credits your account monthly for any export alongside any imports so I only have to have a token direct debit to say I have one.

(Seems to be impossible finding one without damage)

Which really is testament to how stupid these cars are making people. Things like spacial awareness, situational awareness & general roadcraft is all going down the pan because these cars hold everyone's hands. The amount of absolute *********** I see on the roads from Tesla drivers is quite something tbh. I reckon half of them could get T-boned by an artic and wouldn't even know unless the car told them. The remaining Tesla drivers seem to have bought the cars purely on their acceleration and just drive flat footed everywhere. As a motorcyclist, my senses dial up to 11 whenever I'm in the proximity of a Tesla driver as there's always a very high chance that the driver has absolutely zero awareness of what's going on around them. They're the new Honda Jazz.

And yet, despite all these cameras, parking aids, fancy cruise, these people still manage to make their cars look like they drive by touch. Genuinely boggles the mind.

That's so 2023  eon now does direct bank transfers
i think the frequency is up to 4 yearly (every 3 months) if you really wanted it to be so
it's still a bit archaic compared to octopus though as you still have to send in a picture of your meter reading

Can you conserve battery by leaving it plugged in? Or is it not an option/feasible?

With my EV thankfully most mornings I leave at 5:30am so I can charge and pre heat the cabin on the cheap rate, and the rare day I leave at 8 I leave the car plugged in and pre heat on the normal unit rate to conserve battery, but it’s not that often I need to do that.

Yes I can set the car to pre condition via the ohme app when plugged in, but she does frequent low mileage journeys so we only charge once per week.

Not entirely sure this is a particular characteriestic of any manufactuer, people are just really bad at driving, give them them 300+ HP and they'll show you how bad they really are.

That said, I'm pretty sure my own Tesla is the only once I have seen without alloy wheel damage.

These are the exact models I had/have.

got to wonder why one owner teslas are sold with damage - fleet leasing companies billed the companies for repairs but auctioned them without making repairs ?
they want them on the market ASAP.

Used EV prices were down 4.3% year on year, but this represented a slowdown, as July saw a 6% year on year drop.

The average price of a used EV was £25,025 in August.

Autotrader reported that EV supply was up 42.2% year on year and demand was up 31.3%.

Mazda MX-5 prices saw the biggest year on year increase in August (13.6%), with the average vehicle priced at £11,853.

Audi RS6 Avant prices increased by 11.7% on average, followed by the Volkswagen Beetle (11.1%), BMW 1-Series (10.4%) and BMW M4 (10.2%).

The Tesla Model Y saw the biggest year on year drop in values at 19.2%, followed by the Vauxhall Viva (16.6%), MG4 (16.5%) and the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer (14.9%).

saw first explorer in red at pool carpark, have a monolithic/clean look reminiscent of a mini range rover and seem a cheap way into the VW 550 motor eg
