The rise of Ozempic

I keep hearing about it a lot in social circles. My neighbour is on it. I knew a family that were all over weight and now the mother and daughters have all gone through massive weight loss using it to the point they look like different people.
If you google what it is relevant to the UK:

Semaglutide, sold under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus, is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes and reduce obesity.

and

Is Ozempic legal in the UK?

Ozempic® is legal in the UK, but only as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. It is not currently authorised for weight loss. You should not be able to buy Ozempic® online without a prescription. Please check that any online pharmacy you use is UK registered and regulated and watch out for fake weight loss injections.

But people are seemingly able to obtain and use it. I know of multiple people that have used it and they are not diabetic.

I have to say that the results I see are mind blowing. It clearly works. People tell me they use it and just don't have appetites anymore like overnight. The weight piles off. Life changing.

How do you feel about it? Could we see a massive swing in obesity levels? Will there soon be "no excuse" to be fat? Side effects?

*note - I am a skinny, lanky git and therefore have no use for it personally!

Ozempic and wegovy are the same drug licensed for different things. Ozempic is for diabetes, wegovy is for obesity.

There's a fair few members on either wegovy or monjaro for weightloss.

The whole class of meds including some still under clinical trial is something I find very interesting, some of the benefits being touted especially for the newer generations of drugs sound almost unbelievable but anecdotally they do seem to do some impressive things.

Why does everyone refer to it as Ozempic? Typical comment down the pub will be:

"Yeah she's been on the Ozempic, have you seen her lately?" etc

Dude there's literally loads of posts already on this in the weight loss thread ;)
It definitely works for people as it's stopping you eating as much/frequently. So it can't not.

Most will be on Wegovy and not Ozempic and get it via a private prescription. I’m on Mounjaro and have been for about 11 weeks with no issues. Lost a stone and 4lbs so far.

The media. Most People won't even be using semaglutide anymore as it was an earlier generation, many have moved onto trizepitide but they both get lumped under "ozempic" or "glp1" meds in the media

Yeah I thought someone would point that out. I just felt it warranted its own thread, but maybe that was a bad idea. Yeah I don't read that thread either obvs as I'm errr....not a great big fat jubber lubber. ;)

Haha, I red that as "I don't read the thread, cause I'm errr... a great big fat jubber lubber ;)"

What I don't get is why so many people tell others that they're on it. It's private and I'd keep it private.

"Wow you look good, have you lost weight?"

"Thanks yeah I've been working out / dieting / furiously *******" rather than "I've been injecting myself because I'm greedy and lack strength of mind".

In what way is it temporary? You mean in that if you stop, your appetite goes up?

Maybe some people are more honest about it and don’t like lying to people they know

At the same time, at least they're not lying like that and falsely getting praise? Fair play to them for actually being honest.

Regardless, people can and will do what works for them, so I've not really got an opinion on it, other than when they claim they've achieved it naturally - then it falls into the steroids type **** mentality.

Do the fattys not bother to exercise anymore?
So it’s straight to drugs to help them lose weight?
Seems a bit lazy, but that’s probably why their there in the first place.

I was more referring to this example above:

"Why does everyone refer to it as Ozempic? Typical comment down the pub will be:

"Yeah she's been on the Ozempic, have you seen her lately?" etc"

...rather than your close family etc.

Working out is also a temporary solution and is still cheating. If your going to an airconditioned gym and not actually chopping down trees with your bare hands and carrying your firewood back home. Your using tools to get an edge.
Those that think these drugs dont require any work are the same types that think you just inject steroids and grow.

I know steroids require hard work, but they are still a cheat - I just want to clarify I'm not one of those people that thinks you don't work out hard on them ;)

2025 everyone wants the quick easy option.
What happens when they stop taking it? I assume the appetite comes back with a vengeance (and the fat)
