It won’t have any real impact on illegal work — it’s not being introduced for the reasons they’re claiming.

As long as cash exists, there will always be ‘off the books’ work.

That’s why this feels more like a precursor to eradicating cash down the line, or paving the way for even more restrictive measures when this inevitably fails.

People will dismiss that as ‘tin foil hat’ talk, but remember: we already see arrests over social media posts, and we now have to show photographic ID just to access adult content.

Ironically, AI is far more of a risk to most peoples jobs, than a migrant worker.

Because Labour have done it there's a petition not to go ahead with it.

Amusingly if you look at previous remarks from members of Reform there's plenty of evidence of support for this sort of thing, 2, 3, 4 years a go but now for some reason not so much.

I'd submit it's easy already. The government already knows who you are, where you live, what your citizenship status is, what car you drive, how old you are, how much you earn, what your credit record is, what you look like... How is this worse?
