Poll: DIGITAL ID - It's coming *** NO GENERAL POLITICS TALK - ONE AND ONLY WARNING ***

Are you for or against the new Digital ID

  • Total voters
    395
  • Poll closed .
Care to elaborate?

The track before it felt like weren't second class citizens in our own country.
The track where you could get a doctors appointment and not wait weeks if not months!

The Tories weren't perfect, But Labour have been an absolute joke.
The Tories were In charge for the 14 years the country went down the pan!

You think labour have done more harm in 14 months? NHS waiting lists came down...

Let's not devolve into general Politics discussion, otherwise this thread will be closed or moved to Speakers Corner

EDIT:
It's actually been nice to have some different discussion on this, compared to the usual SC crowd - and for the most part everyone has played nice

Over 1M signatures of the petition now

If someone want to come into the UK illegally....they know they have to stay under the radar; not having an ID card is so far down the list of criteria that it means nothing and is not a deterrent, it is not even close.

How do people in such position so out of touch with reality?

70 million in country. wont make a blind bit of difference. look at brexit as prime eg. lost the first vote to go brexit. so what they do ? oh lets vote again cause we lost until we over turn it. pip. lost vote to change it. oh lets vote again until we get what we want. you see the theme here ? the goverment do what they want. 1 million 2 million wont matter. id cards are coming. best thing is its stupid as hell. migrants wont use them. which is supposed to be the point of having them. all your info will get sold on. you will be watched from every angle. so migrants get off free we get watched from every angle.

If it's aimed at PAYE employment then the stated reason for it seems a bit iffy.

Would it also tackle gig economy work - like if you want to deliver for uber eats or deliveroo (not technically employees) then you'd need a digital ID? Or cash in hand work - would those employers be fined if their cash in hand workers don't have a digital ID? Aren't they supposed to be fined already? And don't people already rent out deliveroo and uber eats accounts?

I would say it's for anyone legally entitled to be here in the UK.
Gig economy? If you pay tax you should be on the system?

It's a good tag line to sell it in the current climate I feel more than an actual workable solution to any illegal immigration

I think eventually it’ll dawn on people that this scheme isn’t being rolled out for the reasons we’re being told. Hopefully by then there’ll be more pushback.

It’s not going to reduce or stop ‘illegal work’ by illegal immigrants — that’s almost always cash-in-hand, so a digital ID makes no difference at all. Which begs the question: why is it really being introduced?

Whatever else you think about them, the people at the top aren’t daft. They’ll know full well it won’t work for the purpose they’re selling it for.

Those legally entitled to work in the UK already have a method to prove that - their Share Code
