EV general discussion

Followed by a Renault 5 on the way home last night. It was only when I saw it in my mirrors that I realised how big they actually are, that's packaging genius. They're really well proportioned to look a lot smaller than they are. Renault really have hit it out the park with that car, I reckon it's their Mini/Beetle/500 moment, and possibly the first of that type of car in the EV world.

It's a shame they let the ugly kid in the class copy their homework - the Nissan Micra of all things!

To be fair the Micra is styled much more in line with its customer base (older people).

The Clio and now the 5 has always been targeted at a younger generation.

How does that sentence mean anything at all surrounding cars?

I think the Micra is alright tbh.

The Micra is a car, no? Did you watch the video? The only difference between the R5 and Micra is the outside shell and the badge on the steering wheel. There's more carbon in the copying that what's in their batteries.

I'd extract the urine if a mate bought a R5 - "Micra 'innit?!" :D.

I know it is the R5 with a different outside, it was shown earlier in the year ~March time, and there was already an announcement from Nissan-Renault they would be basically the same car. What I don't get is the actual meaning of the sentence, an ugly kid copying your homework?

Any who, both the Micra and R5 are cars that are needed in the market place presently no enough smaller hatchbacks etc to chose from at reasonable prices. Looks are complete subjective, and the quality of the finish in the Micra seems to be on par or better than the R5 inside, which is where you sit.

Ah I get you. I was referring to the fact my opinion that every Micra ever designed has been an ugly car and this is no exception. The Micra being the ugly kid copied the R5 and only changed the front of their schoolbook. Get it? Ba-dum-tish!

Subjective thoughts on cars aside, I agree that the market needs these types of cars at reasonable prices; if only manufacturers weren't so lazy going about it.

Quick question, is it fairly normal for the battery % to change by 3-5% after parking up for a while? For example yesterday I did a 120 mile journey, got home with 50% battery, put it on charge in the evening after a few hours and it was at 45%, same after my commute, I sometimes see 3-5% difference plus or minus.

I assume this is just the BMS re calculating after the car has cooled/warmed?

I actually think the last Micra design they just binned off looked alright, the EV one looks bland, the older ones ugly - but they were never intended to be anything other than an A to B car.

Yup, they are pretty big. This is a photo I put in the Encounters thread a few weeks back; for comparison, that's our Mazda CX60 parked behind it. Those bays are narrow, yet it still pretty much fills it widthways, same as the Mazda.

14.6cm narrower than your Mazda according to this handy website, makes a decent difference to how it fits down narrow streets and in tighter car park spaces I've found:

Seeing the new R5 next to the original in the Renault showroom was quite eye-opening though, it makes the old one look like a Little Tikes car.

I was on about how much petrol you put in your car compared to electric and how much you have saved now.
We've saved a fortune and especially only putting domestic appliances on at scheduled cheap times.

The R5 isn't big, it's shorter than a mk8 fiesta and only a weany bit wider. Perhaps the bulky front end and the high waistline is deceptive.
The Puma it competes with is larger.

The 1992 K reg 1.0 litre four speed that was my first car would like a word! :D

Fellow Tesla owners (or anyone else without a rear wipe), anyone else tried rainx or equivalent on rear windscreen? It gets quite dirty eventually so wondering if it may help

Yeah it’s decent enough. The beading you get can build up the dirt but beads mean you can see through better anyway that sheeting,

Just at Gloucester services north and after 8pm only 33p/kWh into the IPACE. Comedy cheap.

Not far off some people’s home tariff that
