Buyers regret or pointless purchases?

PS5 easily. Just a big disappointment in general.

On PC I've been pretty good with my buys, if I had to pick something, then my 11400. I'm not unhappy with it, with power limits off and gear 1 3600 it's 10% or so on average behind a 5600x (so says techpowerup who tested that config) and it was significantly cheaper when I bought it and more than enough for me, but there is no where to go when it's no longer good enough for me. If I had got a 5600x, I could drop in a 5700x3d for cheap. Not my fault, I can't see the future and how 3d cache would turn out, but that's the probably the closest big thing to regret I can think of on pc.

I'll let you know when I get around to opening the 50 Amazon parcels under the stairs that I ordered and then forgot what it was by the time it arrived.

My PS5 / PSVR2 - I really just wanted to try it out but haven't played on it for more than 2-3 mins when I'm showing someone else. I even buy the occasional game for it, that I also don't play.

Part of me longs for a USB Pioneer slot loading blu-ray drive (BDR-XS07TS), just because it would remind me of my old IDE Pioneer drive, which was also a slot loader. Worse than that, I'd like in the silver colour too, which is more expensive.

:(

Two things from OCUK spring to mind, though regret is perhaps a strong word as neither were expensive enough for that.

First was a Samsung docking station thingy with all manner of ports. Bought it for a tenner or something on clearance in around 2009, I didn't even have a laptop! Sold it last year on eBay for more than I bought it for, well, probably not inflation-adjusted lol.

Second was a 40GB Intel SSD, a 320 I assume, again on sale. Never used it, still have it. I did use the Intel torch/multitool thing that came with it though and still have that :D

As for photo gear I have a panorama set up that I bought 3 years ago. Head level, arca slides, L bracket and a foam filled box to put it all in. I must get around to trying it out.

Not quite regret but I have a bit of a habit of buying broken things/hanging on to broken things thinking I can fix them. I never find the time.

:edit: pls don't notice my 30k+ posts on an internet forum, it'd blow my excuse wide open and force me to accept I have an actual problem.

For me its mainly Camera lences, I have 5 and I only end up taking one out with me. The price of those things makes it sting! One day I'll get around to moving them onto someone who will actually use them.

Same - I realised most of my favourite non-macro shots were taken on my 55mm, which helped me start slimming down.

Getting a GF. Expensive. :(

Technically this is in the hardware section, but I’ll add my car to the list.

Had a 2016 Mercedes E Class for two years from 2021 to 2023, added about 35k miles to it. Accidentally wrote it off, and got a payout only a few grand less than what I’d bought it for as the market had gone crazy not long afterwards.

Had to replace it, and happened to rent a Polestar for a week right after the accident, so took the plunge and went EV with a 2022 model.

Two years later and I’ve saved over 4 grand in fuel, but the normalisation of the market means it’s dropped in value WAY more than a Mercedes would have, along with paying for a charger.

In a nutshell, I would have been financially better off now by getting an older ICE Mercedes and paying for the fuel…

Year old with 17k miles on it. It was just after the market started recovering but I needed a car so such is life - some things are outside your control!

Completely sold on EV’s, just the financial outcome of it all makes me chuckle a bit!
Ah yes, that time when used car prices were cray cray

There was a gaming peripheral system, I forget the name, that had a rumble wrist pad, stereo fans to produce a wind like effect, and mood lighting to put behind and beside your monitor to change the colour hue around you. It was designed to work with games to enhance the experience and I think the only major title it ever worked with was FarCry the one set in Africa. It was quite a novel experience but once it was obvious no one was going to develop for it, I ripped it all out and threw it away.

i think the only reason I got it was because it was on sale probably as the business was closing down or discontinuing the product, so the whole lot was about £20 or something. Made throwing it away not feel as bad :D

Steamdeck for me, I pre-ordered the top spec one with case ans 1TB of storage but I just didn't really use it, sold it on here in the end a while back. I thought it was a cool idea but I guess I was/am so used to a premium big screen PC gaming experience trying to game on the terrible little display it had with all the settings turned down and such and still struggling to hit 60fps was not the experience I was looking for, also it was never a good choice for someone who mostly plays strategy games that are very mouse driven :D a great bit of kit for the right person, I was not that person.

Various MM purchases, that have since sat in a box after testing they worked.
Mainly...
- skylake CPU/mobo/RAM that I only ever used to format a SATA SSD for my dad
- Fan controller that I've since got a new case that it won't fit in (still not built it)

That and about 5 years of humble choice, most of which I've never claimed, have probably close to 1k game keys I'll never bother to play and most of the good ones have been free on EGS/Prime since then :D
