Imgur has blocked the UK

imgbb.com FTW!
if that's the one i think it is, it kills the images after about a week to the point where it's useless on a forum already.

Probably the best option at this point.
TBH it's been the best option for 20+ years, so many of the image hosts have either shut down with little warning, changed how they handle stuff so it either deletes itself after X days (unless you've got a paid account) or something similar that it's been a pet hate of mine for a very long time :(
It's one of the reasons I bought my own domain/paid for hosting 24 or so years back, although mine is rather overkill for what I do with it.

Imgur was fine on all fronts until this, I have images still on there which I uploaded 12, maybe even 15 years ago. Actually a massive inconvenience.
I could set up my own hosting, but to be perfectly honest, I had considered it before and decided that the images were more likely to be online in say, 10 years, if I use something like Imgur instead.

Quite a sizable number of broken images on old tech forums (this one included) were self hosted. The rest were Photobucket. I remember using Photobucket over 20 years ago when it must have been a fairly recent thing!

I'm sure others have seen it too now, but have started seeing "Content not viewable in your region" on images posted on the forum that are being hosted on Imgur, unless connected to a VPN.

I mean there's better alternatives to Imgur anyway, but still...
just tested it the uk links are ****** but if i use proton from switzterland i can access it......

thats with a direct link to my photo library.......

edit: i seen stuff coming so downloaded every single thing i have up loaded on imgr and got dad to do the same :)

Oh well...

Still it's keeping the kids safe from all the big adult sites, and pushing them to the dodgier ones who don't care about the bill.. I'm sure that's fiiiiiine.

When I was 15 I did exactly that sort of thing, because I thought I was cool. :p

Through a VPN (US) and on a quick search I cannot see a mention at all that the UK is locked out om Imgur and although early, UK Google shows no news on this, on the news section.

Time to use that and download my stuff before it's gone for good.

Images on the forum are still visible to Aussies, and non-uk netizens.

I had years of links on Photobucket so that was annoying when it shut. Only had 65 images on Imgur. Plus I didn't like the recent changes of everything being made a separate post by default so no problem for me to download and delete my account.

This is very sudden news, more than anything it would have been great if they had announced their plans so I had chance to download my pictures again and find a new host if their plan was to block us. I din't realise there was anything on there that may get them into trouble with the online security act which seems to be a complete pain, what come next banning under 18s from other online addictive things that can be detrimental to some like Fifa or CoD?

I use(d) imgur for my hosting for pictures on here both for the random image thread which I only added a few more photos on Sunday to add to the thread which i didn't upload. Maybe that random thread will need restarting again.
I used it for photos on the photography board as well as it seemed like the site which was both most convenient and also encouraged linking from boards such as this and this is sadder as they are pictures we have shared and people have discussed and enjoyed.

Can you blame them?

Does being verified on there make a difference?
Everything seems normal for me when not using VPN.

Posted this in the image threads cos I noticed it with @Nate75 post.

Opera with VPN

Firefox without VPN

Using a browser like opera with a built in VPN will resolve it.

Imgur will just be the first of many I suspect, due to the 'user to user' aspects of the OSA, plenty of sites will follow this path of deciding it's easier to just region block the UK than trying to comply with the various requirements of the legislation.
