EV general discussion

For me it is a real shame. Best customer service I've had from any supplier (better than Octopus who people put on a pedestal) and right from the start everything was seamless. Even their energy usage stats via my watts were far more reliable than I had with Octopus.

I'm a bit stuck, I was going to jump back on to Octopus Go (not intelligent as I only 3 pin to a PHEV) but I kept my gas with them (Octopus tracker) and now seems to fall between the cracks of not being a "new" customer so I can't do a regular switch but also I'm not a current leccy customer so I can't simply sign up to a new tariff.

Got a day in the office tomorrow so I'll get in touch with them and see if they can manually sort it for me.
Same situation. Joined Tomato Energy at the beginning of December and my experience all this time from the online consumption tracker and my monthly debits has been faultless.

60 quid monthly electric running the house and my Ioniq 28kwh has been pretty sweet especially as I was fully expecting them to go bump like Bulb previously but now that my year is coming to and end what would be my next move?

Likewise I also kept our gas with Octopus but their 65p SC stings compared to Tomato's 45p daily.

How much mileage do you do on average each day? Given the deals on the 60 SE L atm wouldn't it be worth sucking up the inconvenience on the odd time you do a longer journey? Save a fair whack if so

My day to day isn't very much. BUT, every 2 weeks during the winter I drive back and for to Cardiff. My IPace won't do the journey in one hit which is a pain. So range is a factor when choosing the 85.

I took the Enyaq for a drive earlier today and whilst it was OK I wasn't sold - it would be a case of "It'll do" rather than actually wanting it. I've asked for a drive of a PHEV Superb estate tomorrow. It's a bit of a monster so need to make sure I can manoeuvre it around the driveway. I sat in a Superb earlier and the seats had much more support for legs (mine ache after a while)

Autobild supplied some range data which showed about ~19% difference between the best and worst. They also did a second test in a wider tyre size which had about 14% difference between the best and worst. Most people probably aren't swapping between the best and worst so the difference that most people see will be somewhat less, but even a 5-10% difference is probably noticable.

While the increased range on the Falkens is impressive, it does seem to come at a significant cost in terms of wet weather performance.

I swapped the Michelin EV specific tyres on my Zoe for Cross Climates and didn't notice a significant drop in range or increase in road noise, and my Niro also has non-EV specific all seasons and still averages ~3.8mi/kwh

I had a set of conti allseasoncontact 2s fitted not long after I got the id3 and I'm averaging 4mi/kWh after 3k miles so 230 miles roughly to a full charge which is about as good as you'll get in the real world. Tyre noise is no different to the OEM ones that came off

Yeah sounds like phev is the way to go for you! If was determined to go elec you can't beat the Teslas for range and charging infrastructure

Yikes, had a service on the Kia ev6, they found 2 slashes on a tyre, but I can't see anything that bad, was expecting 1 to 2" slash.
They quoted £500 for a replacement. At a normal tyre shop around £280.
What a mark up, main dealer hey....

I found the enyaq to be much the same with the biggest issue being the lack of feel with the brakes, which is much the same across many VAG EV models.
Superb is a very large car at 4.9m..

Yeah my searching last night also pointed towards the hankook ion Evo.
The only thing I can't say for certain is how different the grip and handling is, when compared to the PS4 acoustic. I've seen one that compared with a vanilla ps5, but how translatable that is to the T0 PS4 acoustic, I don't know.
But... You said your car has almost new tyres on it?!

Do we need to hook you up with the guy who measured his tyres to 0.1mm every week?!

mocking his thread on tyre depths : the tyre review people/autobilde should tell us what the tyres feel like when they only have 4mm remaining though,
that's when they become noisy and you notice the wet grip, when the honeymoon is over - maybe it wasn't that thread that that was discussed in.

( have had goodyear efficient grips in AB review forever, they're a case in point, also cracking tyres, my mechanic said that's a common problem)

Somebody actually did that?

@nlel1975 started off with his undertray and Wurth screws, and we all took the mick out of him. Instead of getting annoyed he took it like a champ and has become on of my favourite posters. Dude's an absolute legend, massive respect for sticking to his guns in the face of incessant badgering from idiots like me :D

None. Does that mean I'm not allowed to post in here?

Please point me in the direction of that rule and I'll gladly bow out.
Not really adding much then are you. Why are you even here. Voyeurism?

Just seems odd to be in a thread that you can’t really contribute to with experience yet get upset when I call out a guy who’s posted for about 4-5 years about all the reason why he won’t get an EV. I really don’t why you in here tbh

Seems to me you are just looking for an argument

Parked my EV 2 weeks. Still on 82%.

Pleased with the lack of drain some cars seem to have

So you are the gatekeeper of this thread and because I'm neither an EV owner or looking to buy one, then I can't be in this thread?

Good Luck with that ;)

yet get upset when I call out a guy who’s posted for about 4-5 years about all the reason why he won’t get an EV.
It's not your job to call anyone out, and I'm frankly sick of the bullying behaviour. If you're representative of the majority of EV owners, then I hope I never own one.
