Sold 5090 On eBay - Buyer says its faulty

ive secretely got my fingers crossed that itl turn out something really dumb and obvious when it arrives and all is well and good and we can all l augh about it
but seeing that its been via a computer shop that kinda pretty much all but rules otu my optimistic finger crossing but still i hope this all turns out well
Yeah we have our fingers crossed too for you mate

It's still possible the pc shop may
Be limited in their knowledge
If its a small one man business sort of affair
Probably dont deal with many 5090 cards
So their test pc may not be up to running a 5090
Or whatever hpwr connector they have may not be

I had a 1080 ti returned to me "DOA", but it was fine, they just changed their mind.

I hate to say it, but there's a lot of very dodgy "tech/repair" shops out there in the same way there is for vape and barbers etc. If it is a scam that might be part of the bit to make them seem more legit, wouldn't be the first time I've seen something like that.

Fingers crossed for the OP but unfortunately I'd never sell a high value item via Ebay, shame as it was excellent back in the day but it's turned into a minefield. Mind you, even "back in the day" I still favoured selling on the likes of the sorely missed Play.com and one or two other sites.
Yeah, that's what I thought when I said what I said; I definitely think they're in on it, be it a friends or families shop or their own :(

OP, when is it arriving back to you?

I hope you took pictures of the item and serial number all in detail. I would also make sure you take video of you opening the item when he sends it to you. If you also post something to a seller make sure you take video of you packing the item and sealing it the box. Also make sure you insure all item when posting so that if its damaged in transit you can claim it back but its a difficult process from what I understand. I hope it all turns out well for you.

I'd take a 5090 to CeX before trusting eBay buyers and protections.
100% this: when all things are considered, the stress of dealing with scam buyers on eBay and then eBay's terms of service, which offer absolutely no protection for sellers, at least you know you're getting screwed over before you walk into a CEX.

Sign me up. I hope the buyer just had a change of heart and your 5090 is perfectly fine.

People pull this crap all of the time on eBay. It happened to me twice a few years ago and I haven't bothered with it since.

I only sell stuff in eBay if it's less than £50, too many scammers and Chancers which are bay fall over themselves to protect.

This could be part of a wider scam where the user and the shop are stripping/switching cards for profit, or the buyer is pulling a scam because he screwed the card up with an underpowered PSU.

Really hope it comes back working and you don't just end up with an expensive paper weight

Hope everything works out ok, I've sold over 100 gpu's on eBay (from mining days years back) and never had any issues at all but a modern £1500 odd GPU i'd certainly think twice about doing so.

I bought a flight stick off eBay a while back. It arrived damaged - scuffs, paint chips, even bent metal around the button cowlings - so I initiated a return. The seller sent me a couple of messages calling me all sorts of names, claiming it wasn't the item he'd sent, that he was going to argue the toss with eBay, etc. He eventually agreed to refund me after deliberately running the time out on all the options open to him only to then change his mind when he received the item...

eBay refunded me with an apology. I then bought basically the same item for less money on the MM and it was perfect.

eBay is the Wild West even as a buyer...

I'm interested to see how this is resolved! I skimmed through 7 pages and still don't have answers...

Crazy how it's been nearly a week, as soon as it was confirmed the card was not working I would have sent it back the very next day. Not sure why someone would delay or keep around a card that they say is not working esp after taking it to a shop for diagnostics.

Possibly trying to get the seller to do a partial refund....

Believe the OP sent them a label
For special delivery at some point though dont
Remember which day
As lot of replies in this thread

So may even get hit with return delivery rmsd cost By look of it
Though guess that's nothing compared to
The cost of the card so probably did it
To get the card back faster

My parcel is on day 18 of royal mail limbo now
So even a "decent " postage choice
Doesn't always work out quick

The OP can at least check if the buyer got royal mail
To collect it /or took to post office though

Edit
Sent them return label on Tuesday
