Because it's not their money they are spending, and because it doesn't affect their bottom line they won't lose their jobs.I struggle to get my head around it tbh.

That's why I left. I just couldn't deal with it any more.Having worked, and still work as a contractor for a government institution, the amount of incompetence and laziness, coupled with zero accountability, is absolutely staggering. If I had to put a number on it, I'd say that 75% of the money spent may as well have been set on fire. Even the simplest projects overrun by double, triple or even more of the original deadlines. They can take a £500 job to paint a wall and by the time they've had all their consultants in, then the consultants to review the plans, then the designers, the workshops that need to be held, then everything needs to be rescheduled three times because someone called in sick and has no backup, that job will easily be £20k. To paint a wall.
I've not even mentioned the corruption either, which again is so blatant it's unreal.
I've often said to put me in charge of a department, I've changed horrible teams and contracts around in the past and I'm more than happy to do it again. In fact I'm so confident that I'd say I could reduce expenditure by 50% in the first year alone, and have almost all the projects delivered on time.
But nope, it's a lot easier to just let things overrun and cost millions or even billions than spend a few hundred grand a year on a competent team of managers.
I struggle to get my head around it tbh.
Ignoring the fact it's pretty much impossible to prevent people coming in illegally, a Digital ID could be made to prevent those that don't have one being able to work and accessing services.I don't see how a digital ID stops people coming in illegally...
Not sure how that’s a ‘major blow’ if they are not one of the home office’s preferred IT suppliers.
If you watch that 'Parliament will consider ...' date, it has gone up by a day every time. I thought these things were supposed to tick down, not up!11 days for a debate date, but I'll be surprised if anything comes out of this said debate, as based on their response (and responses to most petitions), it'll be a complete waste of time.

Yep. What they should have done was simply announce that they were going to modernise the National Insurance system to make it available on your phone, with photo, if you want it as Id (you need it anyway to work).I think our hapless/hopeless/useless government would have had a slightly better chance of getting more people on board with this ridiculous idea if they hadn't just flat out lied from the outset.
Their arrogance is almost unbelievable, although hardly unexpected.
Trying to now bulldoze it through and upon us by force is I expect going to go very very badly for them, one only has to look at the petition and the latest polls to see what a monumental disaster this'll be.

As said though, it would require the Government to actual put in some heavy weight measures alongside the ID but they're too busy pandering to everyone and dealing with the folk that think it would lead us to some 1984 dystopia-esque future.
How? Short of thinking the boats which is obviously barbaric and never going to happen, you can’t stop them. It's possible to stop most of them, if we actually had a proper border defence. We're an island ffs, the only way here is by air or sea (or one tunnel).
There is absolutely an ulterior motive for this digital ID crap. Probably to tie it in with the OSA and internet access, which has already fallen flat on it's arse.
The way you stop them is by making the journey worthless. Deport illegal immigrants immediately, catch them all at point of entry and return them, news will spread. Also reduce the generousity of the benefits to an absolute miserable minimum and remove people once their right to remain is over. Stop being so ridiculously geneours with our right to remain. How? Not sure I’d call £10/week and shelter generous but sure. The way you stop them is by making the journey worthless. Remove the pull factors and increase the risk of wasting your hard earned criminal gang fee and people will stop paying to come here.

No one’s risking everything (literally) to escape whatever hell they have come from for nothing.
You could remove the 10/week and out them up in tents. It wouldn’t matter because that would be better than where most of them have come from.
