Advice on a pet tracker for small dog

Hi folks.
My friend has a small dog. A Daschund. Loves to let him off lead and he runs through the woods.
Recently we took him to Cleethorpes Country park where there are some woods he'd never been to before so obviously he was not familiar with the place. He tootled off doing his thing but we lost sight of him. Called and called but the little blighter has selective hearing. He eventually re-appeared some 15 minutes later.

Needless to say we were very worried during this but he was probably just having a wander round sniffing and having a great time.

So for future I could do with some advice on a pet tracker. How good are they, especially in woods, Cost, subscription. Suitability for a small dog?

Anything really you can advise me of.

I can't suggest anything specifically but avoid AirTags, they're not suitable for this sort of thing.
 
Avoid pit pat, i thought it sounded ideal with higher upfront cost but no subscription.
What it doesn't tell you tho is you still need to pay monthly for any useful features.

Im changing to tractive soon, seems to be the best in UK also has a light and sound for the dark.
I've got a 1yo working cocker that does whatever it wants off the lead so a decent tracker is essential.

Thanks for the heads up on PitPat. I'll check out Tractive to find out what's involved.
 
Tractive Mini (cat) for a small dog as imo its the better tracker, you need the subscription plan but well worth it. The new ones come with a rubber sleeve that will fit on small dog collars.

Amazon best place to buy the devices then just activate once recieved. Prices usually cheaper M-F.

I mean they got to be off the lead to train off the lead.
In my case I live in the country and she comes back most the time, just sometimes she goes chasing after something (normally rabbits) so a tracker while training is a handy tool.

Oh didn't realise that, problem solved lol.
Seriously tho, sometimes the best of trained dogs go pelting after wildlife in the country and a tracker offers price of mind.
No idea why people are getting their knickers in a twist about it.
