Are the cheaper LG OLED TVs bad then? I know on these forums people rave about the premium models and they've been the gold standard for the last few years but are they really worth the premium.
I'm in the market to replace my TV and been keeping an eye on the members market but the decent ones have all been snapped up very quickly. Is something like the significantly cheaper

Absolutely not, but if someone has an £1800 budget, they may as well be looking at the more premium variants.
As @the wopster says, this isn't an OLED and not worth bothering with, it's the sort of thing you'll find in the amazon sales for £350
I thought similar when in the market to upgrade my failing Panasonic 55" LED and figured that anything within a reasonable budget of around £1,000 would be a massive upgrade. I decided it would either be a size increase to 65" but sticking with LED, or switch to OLED but remain at 50-55".
After going through tons of reviews, I spotted a deal with the Samsung S90C 65" QD-OLED at I think it was around £1,200. It was end of line as the 2024 model was out, hence the good saving. So an upgrade to OLED and a bigger screen size - I snapped it up and decided to just deal with the wrath of the wife (although she now secretly loves it but won't admit it! lol). The Quantum Dot screen is lovely with rich colours and it can get very bright, although I'm always in Filmmaker Mode so don't really take advantage of that. I can't really imagine image quality being noticeably better to justify the thousands of extra some of the premium models want.
The key concern for me was viewing angle and the LG I was comparing it to at the time wasn't good with this. I believe the LG Gx series sorted it. Check out the differences here about 3/4 down the whole page: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-s90c-oled-vs-lg-c4-oled/37893/49541
The downside with Samsung is no Dolby Vision support and no DTS passthrough with HDMI-CEC eARC. But it's only really Blu-rays that use DTS and my player connects directly to the AVR anyway.
Thanks for the replies. Knowing me I won't be happy unless it's one of the premium OLED models then. May keep my eye on MM for the next 6 months to see if anyone is selling one of the older models otherwise will probably have to bite the bullet at some point.
At the moment it's ignorance is bliss because my current TV isn't even 4K but I'm more of a sound guy anyway, as long as I have my KEF setup and Dennon AV amp I'm happy

I just wondered if you get the occasional mega deal on these or whether they are consistently priced. I think I've decided on the C series anyway. If I'm going to blow a grand on a TV might as well do it properly.
The price change all the time. Usually get some deals around black friday but last year wasnt great. Then early the following year spring time when they are clearing stock for the new lines is when you see the biggest bargains, and sometimes huge savings.

The price does change a lot. My theory is the mega deal you see is an initial one where they need to do a big stock clearance to get stock down to last until product end of life, and you then see the price go back up again. I've noticed the first discount you see is often one of the best. The Summer also seems like a good time for discounts.
I'm happy to play the waiting game. It really is ignorance is bliss for me. I watched Casino Royale last night on my primitive relic of a TV and it was still pretty good image quality and brightness. I stand to be truly and utterly blown away by the C series when the time comes.
I'm not massively familiar with LG TV's, but from memory I think if going with the c-series then the C5 is the one to try and get (I think it's the colour reproduction that has been improved and also brightness levels), although the general opinion seems to be that the C4 is still a mighty good TV. But even better if you can grab a G5 in a sale then it's suppose to have a new and impressive OLED panel. I could be wrong, but worth looking into this. The viewing angles on the c-series don't seem great if that is of concern, else just ignore lol
Peter Tyson has a clearance section where some excellent bargains can occasionally be had. Rtings is good for comparison reviews.
I have a 55" CX that I paid £700 for end of November 2021. Been very happy with it and cant see me feeling a need to change unless it goes wrong. What I am getting at is don't discount a couple of years old model if you can find a bargain.
