If you've changed the key fob battery, why don't you go back to Viper?

Wonders of modern cars
Some new cars have sit in seat to start - you put your butt on the drivers seat and it turns on, assuming you also have the key on you. Can't wait until that mechanism breaks and you're ripping out the car seats to start the damn car lol
Why would we even want a system like that.
At least once you find it the fix is cheap. Just rip out the wires and re-solder so its permanently on

Might as well throw in a weight sensor at that point so the car can shame you too!

Suggests it's the new alarm system tapping I to a wire they shouldn't have

It has to be high likelihood it's the alarm IMO, as others have said previously.
So what was the outcome, you've held us in suspense for a week now @ShiWarrior 
Im keen to know the outcome too. It’s why I can’t bring myself to get a ghost immobiliser fitted to all my cars; I’m terrified its causes similar problems.
OP, I have to ask… why did you fit an aftermarket alarm to the car, it would have had one fitted as standard anyway -?

I accidentally put my key in low power mode and I'd have to press the buttons to unlock the car rather than keyless working, and had to hold the key right up to the button to start. Didn't get that error though.
Why have the viper fitted out of curiousty? The car has it's own alarm and it's just a mazda 3, I don't think anyone really looks at them twice.

apologies
so i went back to the installers, and it was 2 blown fuses
they put a dashcam in for me with a dedicated battery and the fuse holder they put in , the fuse wasn't connecting properly, and because 2 fuses blown, it was throwing up with button start error
all sorted now
