Could be worse, people have done it during the 30 min channel tunnel crossing and they can’t unload the train behind that person until it’s done…
Now every time you board someone has to go round telling people in modern cars not to do software updates on the train.
It needs to be bloody good to justify a £140,000+ price tag
Surely it's not beyond the wit of man to ensure a car remains driveable through an update? This stuff is so weird to me.

Not when it includes the powertrain controller. The real issue is people not reading the warning before hand!

Computers and iPads aren't cars. It's not unreasonable to have different expectations of different things.
The software on a car is critical for the operation of said car.
I’m not sure how you can separate the operation of the car and the underlying software which controls all the functions of the car.

You understand a electric motor needs an inverter to run and if that software is being updated then you can’t drive
Not sure why the hate of over the air updates. Previously you would have to go into a dealer
User error. There is a warning on the update. People should read rather than treat it like a cookie acceptance popup
Same happened with the born when the 215min updates went out. People simply didn’t read.
Some tiny percentage of the software is necessary for the operation of the car, the rest isn't. It's providing useful extras. Keeping a car in a state where it can move seems like something that should be prioritised rather than leaving it in an inoperable state for two hours (as mine said it would do recently).
Just for clarity, previous updates i've done have allowed the car to operate and were done in 10mins. This one, however, was a biggy.
It was kind of interesting at times sat in the car, listing to the odd relay go, the dash screen resetting and the odd mechnical noise occur, the brakes did something for sure as I heard the parking brake rengage.
The speakers also ticked every couple of minutes or so, which was like a Chinese water torture

Indeed. The safety implications of a car are 100% the reason they shouldn’t be updated whilst moving. It’s a great point you made, thanks for your clarity of input.
Basically it’s like getting a hair cut. You have to sit still.
Should have bought a 20 year old ICE car if you can’t cope with out the car for short time when the tech needing updating.
Top Tip is to update when you park and leave the car overnight
There's no safety implications, at all, to updating the software for the radio whilst allowing the car to move. In fact, there's bigger safety implications in not properly separating the parts of the system that are doing safety critical stuff from stuff that isn't; it's opening the door to cyberattacks.
