Just out of the cinema and I thought the movie was good and no where near as bad as some early reviews made out. I am by no means a Tron purest but it certainly was exhilarating in certain parts. Jared Leto put in a good shift and this is definitely one of his better movies. Make sure you stay for the mid credit scene. 7/10.

It's a setup for Tron 4.

lol this is getting some scathing reviews :o

“It’s like being shouted to sleep”

From watching a few, it’s definitely supposed to be a movie watched at IMAX, for what it’s worth.

I'm still a bit unclear as to whether they're going to have a good explanation for all the tech world stuff working in the real world or if we're just not meant to think about it.
This is what will ruin it for me, I hate finding plot holes in movies that just make the world make no sense.

I think the review is harsh it's not boring but the story is a little simplistic compared to Tron. It's got elements from other movies ie.
terminator. It is Visually stunning in iMax.

We go to lots of movies at the cinema, and I've learned not to take other people's reviews/opinions too seriously.

For instance didn't Barbie win Oscars? Why on earth don't we have a vomit smiley! :D :D :D

I'm going to see Tron this afternoon, in IMAX, and I'll see what I think then.

I'd agree with this, a very watchable blockbuster. Haven't been to the IMAX in a while but this one was worth it for the experience alone. I listened to the soundtrack before but preferred the Daft Punk stuff. It did the job during the movie though. The setup for sequels seems like there'll be a big asterisk with "depending on box office performance" on it.

Same, was pretty decent and visually impressive.

Not much plot but yer its worth going to see.

I really don't understand all the negative reviews.

Are the disappointed reviewers expecting some incarnate being from the grid to materialise and pleasure them orally?

Great entertainment, awesome visuals, and a thumping soundtrack.

Watched in IMAX 3D last night, speakers were above the limiter so woke up with my ears ringing  thanks Cineworld.

As expected incredible visuals, incredible sound design and impressive 3D (will still prefer to rewatch in 4K at home on an OLED however)

Plot was below average, could have gone in a better direction there, but lots of fan service so I left the film happier with the outcome than beforehand.

Also once again set up for a sequel that may never see the light of day.

Ultimately it feels like this kind of film can't deliver good character depth in a 2 hour film with it always so heavily reliant on CGI, so it is once again more of a sound+visual spectacle/experience than expecting a quality story.

Tron Uprising the best of the 3 modern takes for story and it's an animated series so has more time to build the character depth/viewer interest there I guess.

Seems a bit of a difference between critics reviews and people going to watch it. I was really looking forward to it and loved the previous ones so will probably give this one a chance. I usually trust Kermode, but I'm hoping I find him wrong about this one.

I get some of the critics reviews and if you're looking to find fault with it then it isn't hard. However, it's also easy to enjoy it and not over think everything.

At the right cinema then the soundtrack and visuals are worth it alone.

Go to an average screening and without the visceral hit from isense, imax or vue 4klp it would be pretty average.

Swedes gonna sit in the dark with candles and a bag of crisps....
Fredagsmys.... Look it up its gay.
Sounds more based than gay.

Still in two minds about this. I am big fan of the concept and aesthetic, but never really watched the previous 2 with any real anger, in fact I don't recall much from either, did I even watch them? I abused the absolute hell out of the soundtrack of legacy from the R3configured album so maybe that's where I am getting my "I love Tron" idea from. Either way, it sounds like this is an imax or nofanx job. It's a good enough excuse to get out of the house without the kids and gives us reason to watch something with purpose the week prior (the other 2 films) so will probably end up going.

One specific question I have for those that went, what was the sound like, particularly for voice lines? The wife's hearing is pretty shot to pieces bless her so it's something to consider for us. Tenet for example, o lawd subtitles pls.

Kermode is wrong imo. He seems to dislike the movie because of his opinions on Jared Leto. I don't know anything about him outside his movie career but I thought he played his role well enough to carry it which is a surprise compared to past roles like Morbius.

Rotten Tomatoes
Critics - 56%
Audience - 86%

Yeh, that was the vibe I was getting from him!

I'm a sucker for a good soundtrack anyway. Legacy probably wasn't the best storyline, but the visuals and audio blew me away.

All I remember about Legacy story was that there was a train, that was going towards something for most of the film, and something was chasing the train and oh god I was soooo bored what is with this train :o

I’m probably remembering it wrong, haven’t seen it since release!

As a big fan of the Tron films, and especially the epic soundtrack of legacy with the visuals, quirky elements like Zeus and the questions around Rinzler aka Tron. The whole premise was much better grounded.

Ares for me felt completely wrong, don't get me wrong some great looking visuals and some epic scenes but it just felt flat with a classic let's throw some crap together try putting a great soundtrack over it in the hopes that it lands with fans. For me it didn't, it felt flat and whilst they had nods to the other films the continuity was severely lacking and felt more like fast and the furious meets Tron, with no likeable characters. Would have been great to see some continuation of Sam and Quorra.

I'll watch it again at home upon release but likely disregard it from the franchise as a throw away effort to scrape the barrel by Disney.

Contrasting my wife and daughter really enjoyed it, i.e I think Disney have tried to appeal to generic audience rather than the reasons people loved Tron!
