What film did you watch last night?

Fright Night - 3/10

Never seen this, spontaneous watch browsing Netflix. Billed as a horror comedy, pretty much no humour in it at all. The acting was absolutely dire, the 'best friend' who seemed to hate him in particular was dreadful. The story was the most generic vampire story you could imagine. No idea why this is a cult classic, maybe it was better at the time. Some of the practical effects probably were good at the time but they look a little goofy now.

Boy - Taika Waititi is a fantastic director, outside of the Thor series (which I'm almost tempted to watch just because he assisted with the creation) it's an insta-book for me.

I found it boring more than anything.

'Return of the Living Dead' - now that's an 80s teens in trouble romp that has aged well

Tried Beasts of War that was rubbish turned it off then tried Code 3 that was rubbish so turned that off. Put Sicario on as I know that’s an excellent film. So good.

One Battle After Another - 9/10.

Really enjoyed it, held my attention, and the first nearly 3hrs runtime film in ages that didn't feel like 3hrs.

Cast was superb, Leo & Sean Penn were very very good.

Sean Penn stole the show in every scene. He was amazing.

In part it felt like I was watching a Tarintino movie, like during the bit when Bob (Leo) was on the phone trying to figure out the code and the last half hour felt very Tarintino to me.

Not sure I give it 9/10, i think it was moer an 8/10 for me but i only looked at my watch once.

I Swear - 9/10

Fantastic film based on the true story of John Davidson who was alienated from society when growing up in the 80's due to his tourettes, which wasn't a known or understood condition at the time.

One of those films that will have you laughing one second and deliver an emotional gut punch the next. If you like down to earth humanistic films, this one is for you.

Glad I read this because based on the trailer alone I had zero interest in giving this my time.

No Country for Old Men (2007)

I know this is a highly rated movie, but I dunno. I won't give any spoilers but I was loving it until the "huh?" moment (if you've seen it you know what I mean) and then it kinda just went off a bit weird, and then just ended.

I liked the directing, acting etc, all very good, but, seriously, huh???????

If I had been watching it on DVD I would have assumed that it had skipped a few minutes.

I dunno man, I know what they were trying to say, I guess, but it didn't click with me.

Maybe I need to watch it again.

5/10

That film is brilliant, but I can respect not liking the last twenty minutes or so.

If it feels arbitrary that Moss died, that was the intent, I think. It’s about fate, or destiny, or whatever you want to call it. He can’t escape it.

Yeah pretty much how I felt about it. Bardem is brilliant in it though.
