Just ordered the iPad a16, was between that or a second hand Air. I have a MacBook Air m4 so don't really need the power of the m powered iPads. It's just for sofa browsing and Netflix on holiday etc.

Got it for 250 via Curry's on Ebay which I think is pretty solid. It was at least another £100 for a second hand air m2 or something so I think I'll put that money towards the new AirPods maybe.

My son and wife each got themselves the 13 inch air. I have the 11 inch M1 pro and I'm jealous of theirs especially using IOS26.. I went to have a look today and I just don't want to lose face id and pro version is much thinner. We are expecting a new ipad pro this year?

The iPad does NOT need more power.

It needs something similar to the vapour chamber cooling on the new iPhone so you can actually do stuff on it without it overheating and the screen dimming after literally 20 seconds.

It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a consumer product. You cannot use the M2/M4 anywhere near their potential without the unit very quickly overheating. There is nothing Pro about it whatsoever, you need a MacBook to do any serious content creation.

The M5 iPad Pro is available to order.

not much to say really. Already the best in class device.

Will upgrade my M1 pro to this one. Only because I want to go to 13 inch because other than that my M1 still does every thing perfectly.

Doesn't look like the M5 iPad has vapour cooling?

Completely pointless device and utterly useless for serious content creation/pro stuff. Literally no reason to buy one over the M1 iPad because it can't do anything other than browsing the web without overheating.

I find this so frustrating. It's like putting a V12 engine in a car and not giving it any cooling only to throttle the performance after about 20 seconds of driving it hard. Marketing-led nonsense and certainly nothing Pro about it. I would honestly just buy the M4 one if you want tandem OLED or a used M1 one if you just want an iPad to consume content and not bothered about the display being older (it's still very good though).

Glad I held off from getting the M4 Pro, will be a very nice upgrade from my 2018 iPad Pro!

Yep, it's time with that model.. Lol.
I really try to get my worth out of these things to be fair, it's only really been this year that it's started to struggle with overall performance and battery life. I used to use it to edit videos on but that became pretty impossible around 18 months ago!

Everything has sort of hit an upgrade requirement at the same time unfortunately. My first gen Airpod Pros are having issues with holding charge and the transparency mode has had that 'hiss' noise more frequently this year - and my 13 Pro is probably also at the point of needing to be replaced too!

Nailed it on the head here. Looks like I’m keeping my M1 for another couple of years.

They’re somewhat taking the **** with this last two upgrades.

Why would you need it ? Apple isn't selling the iPad Pro to replace the Macbook series.

Major video editing should always be done on a proper laptop or desktop, not an iPad.

I always find these comments kind of amusing, such false statements. I know a lot of people who use their iPads in professional environments, doing more than basic browsing without thermal issues. Multiple bands using them for live sets for synth, tracking etc. Media agencies who use them for a lot of editing, I did some work for an architect company who has all of their work done on an iPad before being sent off to the CAD/Rendering farms.

I'm all for the continued push for best in class SOCs on the iPad as I suspect it pushes forward R&D by quite a bit, pushing thermals, fanless stuff forward etc. I imagine they don't sell anywhere near the volume of other devices, but still super useful for Apple. I just wish iPad had some form of useful competitor in the market to see what else they could push software side instead of being the de-facto monopoly.

My "false statements" are based on my personal experience with the M2 and M4 iPad Pro. Both were unable to perform RAW editing in Lightroom for more than about 2-3 minutes before overheating and dimming the screen to protect the internal components. The dimming is significant which means you cannot work effectively. This renders them more or less obsolete even for basic photo editing tasks. It is a well documented problem on the internet and applies to other applications too.

I'm not disputing your claims that you know people who use them in "professional environments" but I don't appreciate your tone!
