Of most interest to people in this thread I suspect is this element:

I guess they can only ask people who are licensed? :D

My favourite was "people who consume X type of content want more of it".
No surprise there.

Unfortunately they didn't ask the big questions about how you feel about paying more. Or "are you planning to unsubscribe".

Don't be surprised if you get a summons now....

That's seems to me like illogical hyperbole.

Back in my early working life I use to issue summons and attend court.

Him ( @photoshop ) still getting letters is not surprising which means the extremely busy enforcement officer (37 more visits that day) didn't take him off the automated list as he stated.

Him getting a summons would entail that same enforcement officer actively filling out the necessary "paper work" to start the summons process, which is extremely unlikely after giving him the all clear during the visit.

The "enforcement officer" is actually a saleman who earns commission from either selling TV licences, or taking people to court. Letting them in your property is beyond stupid.

I did have an inspector come round a few weeks ago after getting about 8 letters over the course of 4 months.

He asked if he could come in to check the TVso i let him in, turned on TV, he loaded up Plex and got to the "do you agree" screen [we dont use Plex], and then said thats fine and I will take you off the list.

He did say i should check iplayer too but he didnt bother and that i should uninstall Plex...i just said it came installed with the TV.
Had a brief chat to him and he said he has another 37 properties to visit that day!!!

However, last week i got another threatening letter so god knows what they are doing!
Jesus, why let him in? Some random guy that could say he saw anything.

Personally I would never have let him in myself.

Though one of my very good friends (to my amazement) did the same thing; the enforcement officer came in, turned on his TV, checked for any channels and then gave him the all clear. That was three years ago and he hasn't heard anything from them since.

keep up - Mtv is/was a live tv channel - that song apparently kicked it off too.

-------

on the our future/bbc report .... BBC probably just needs to offer a low tier with advertising membership option like netflix to increase viewers ,
it's not like they don't make programmes some want to watch (like netflix)

You both need to catch up with chilijohncarne on YT.

Er, I was there and watched the very first broadcast of MTV and I'm pretty certain that the first song was The Buggles with 'Video Killed the Radio Star'. I'm still at a loss though, what does Sting have to with anything when the song you're alluding to is by Dire Straits and was released about 5 years after MTV first aired?

Please help me to keep up!

Play the ****ing record and listen to the fist ten seconds.

That's Gordon Sumner himself.

If you have no TV License you cannot watch the BBC iPlayer. BBC ask you not to watch iPlayer

We had a letter stating we was using it when we didn't, we asked for a list of what was watched and when but they never provided it even though they did.

When we called they said that the e mail address used matched the 1 we had on our account and when they e mailed us the details the e mail address was a gmail account so it was not even our account.

The thing is when signing up there is nothing stopping you selecting any address you like so anyone can sign up with your address.

We went around and removed it from every TV, deleted our BBC account as changing your password does not stop them using the account and no longer use their site for anything,

I have corrected the first statement.
If BBC want to ensure non payers do not use Iplayer then they need to put it behind a Paywall like every other subscription service.

I am a reluctant license payer before anybody jumps on. Considering binning it off at the next renewal however.

No I don't because I would never let them in and I do not advocate letting them in, the polar opposite to be precise - exactly as chilijohncarner.

The illogical, nonsensical hyperbole from you that I am referring is this...
Don't be surprised if you get a summons now....

This bit is nonsense and the opposite is true as it would be an astonishing surprise to get a summons after being given the all clear after letting them in.

I'm pretty sure from memory that one of chilleconcarne's videos is about exactly that, after someone let in a salesman to show them they didn't watch live TV.

I'll wait for you to link it so I can watch it for myself.

And even if you should find it I know of two people who let them in and no longer received letters let alone a court summons. I suspect the vast majority of people who do the unrecommended by letting an enforcement officer in, and are given the all clear as they are not watching live TV etc, will never get a court summons!

I have a neighbour that has Virgin media TV (cable) and Internet. He says he's never paid the licence fee and he's been in that house for decades. How do you get away with it when you have live cable feed? Can't they find out?

EDIT: Is it as simple as saying "Yes I have live Virgin cable TV connected and I pay for it but I don't watch it" ? ;)

He might just watch the on-demand programs. You haven't said if he told you he watches live TV/iplayer on it too.

My new build (10 years old now) has Virgin cabled in. I had it for years but cancelled it. So to them it would look like I have Virgin TV and internet.

if you were to watch catch-up sport, on the likes of TNT ie not live. I don't know if you'd need a license,
but on virgin , if it is like ee tv (folks have) you don't get the streamed live freeview tv channels on their box, unless you pay them money.
