Ad blue has nothing to do with 'diesel dust'.

So adblue operates pre dpf , and could help preventing dpf from clogging

Question still stands. I probably could top it up now rather than leave to the last minute

What possible reason would you have for not?

Fluids have a minimum level, they're not going to complain about being topped up to optimum?

Yes, don't let the ad blue run dry, the engine won't start, speaking from experience.

Not fun walking to the nearest petrol station at 7 in the morning to buy the 5 or so litres it needs.

Ill sort that, i didnt know as it tends to go down so slowly,

5L ? mine says refil 15 litres on the idrive
:p

I don't get why some need it and some don't.. is it engine or region specific? Over the last 15 years I've had a 320d then a 123d and now a 335d and none have needed it?

It's needed to meet EU6 emissions specs, that is what caught VAG out they didn't use it in the states to meet their specs and other manufactories were curious how they could do it turns out they couldn't. BMW also didn't use it on early EU6 cars and quietly introduced it on the latter F series cars, suprised this has never been brought up in the court cases as there was 3rd party tests on the non adblu BMWs and they couldn't meet the EU6 spec.

It's a 2018 plate my 4 series.

So technically if I'm using adblue I won't make people like Greta thunburg angry ?

Hopefully it reduces the clogging in any dpf system

After the car wont start, it takes about 5 litres for the system to recognise a refill, that’ll be why that amount came to my head initially..

So yeah, not to drag this out, learn from my mistake and keep it topped up. Main dealers will also top it up for free if you’re getting a service, just remember to ask.

Im due another oil service probably in around 2.5k miles, but ill do the adblue before then as it will come sooner most likely

Next jobs are the rear discs and pads at an indie first , then take in to bmw for oil, oil filter , air filter service and inspection.

She'll get angry if she finds out how often you scan your car for phantom faults ;)

Im not the only one that uses the carly app for BMW on these forums here, i know this as i have seen someone showing the carly app in another thread scanning their Beema

I would scan your car with ISTA for free. But do you actually have any issues, or Carly is telling you that you have one?
