Doesn't look like the M5 iPad has vapour cooling?

Completely pointless device and utterly useless for serious content creation/pro stuff. Literally no reason to buy one over the M1 iPad because it can't do anything other than browsing the web without overheating.

I find this so frustrating. It's like putting a V12 engine in a car and not giving it any cooling only to throttle the performance after about 20 seconds of driving it hard. Marketing-led nonsense and certainly nothing Pro about it. I would honestly just buy the M4 one if you want tandem OLED or a used M1 one if you just want an iPad to consume content and not bothered about the display being older (it's still very good though).

Never read such nonsense, do you work in the creative image sector? I do, my m4 iPad is amazing, content creation & social media marketing are essential these days and the iPad m4 i use is insanely good for this, and Id much rather do stuff on native apps to post etc (which also helps push the posts better), also fantastic to create higher end reels etc on Final Cut iPad - brilliant device for content creators - I do stuff on my phone in a pinch, but otherwise proper posts happen on the iPad.

“Long form” / pro imagery delivery is done via my MacBook such as my professional photography. Content creation for marketing mostly iPad Pro based.

Do you use Lightroom because the problems I’ve encountered are specifically with that.

I’m confused.

You’ve said this before, and agreed that it’s a software issue.

It’s a software optimisation issue in that it works the CPU at full throttle when it shouldn’t. The result is the iPad overheats and the screen dims to protect the hardware. So whilst other applications people are referring to are clearly better optimised for the iPad and probably involve throttling to stop overheating, the fact remains the M2/M4/M5 cannot run at full power for long without the iPad overheating. That’s the point I was making.

Why are people in here so aggressive, if someone has a certain experience with something you don’t agree with it doesn’t make it nonsense.

You're reading far too much into things, nobody is being aggressive. However, when you put statements such as:

"Literally no reason to buy one over the M1 iPad because it can't do anything other than browsing the web without overheating"

Which is, let's be honest willfully incorrect and probably expecting a pushback.

I game on mine for lengthy periods of time nowadays with no issues - not a triple A game or anything, quite an old one in fact but regardless constant usage and no thermal issues.

On my MacBook I use desktop LR Classic which works fine, but I nearly never do on iPad. Use other software for reels mostly, video etc

Same. I got my MacBook Pro specifically for photo editing because of the issues on my iPad hence my frustration and earlier messages. LRC on Mac works like a dream with the GPU acceleration.

I play a match 3 game on my phone and ipad. I have played the same game for 10 years+. They upgraded the software on it to use unity and a whole heap of us are having over heating issues on ipads and latest iphones. Same with andoid devices with what should be a low resource game but is hogging memory. It's also decimating battery when playing.

Now I'm not about to dismiss buying a hardware device based on a software issue.

Well yeah, you can't really do proper professional photo editing on an iPad at this point - I do some occasional images of course and the screen is obviously amazing.

What it does excel at is much quick content creation vs a phone - I much prefer to edit my 4k video footage on it, make decent posts etc, easier to see, easy to type etc and touch screen. Fantastic for that - even YouTube type video editing is absolutely great on it - the m4 is a media power house.

Ordered the 13 inch Pro with education discount and the free pencil after watching my son use his 13 air with the pencil. I could easily have got the air myself but face ID is something I can't go back from.

So anyone got the iPad Pro which has the M5 chip and everything?

Seems quiet on the purchasing front.

I've picked up an M4 Pro this morning! Took a bit longer for some of the price reductions on the M4 line to appear but got a nice 130 quid off which was great.

Tempted by the M5 but figured the M4 will already be a substantial improvement from my 2019 iPad Pro - and if I can make this new one last another 6/7 years then I'll be very happy.

I have a 4th Gen Pro 12.9" iPad (2020). Struggling to see the benefits of the new one for my use.... I see it's 60g lighter :D

Alright 2 days with the M4 and I’m surprised that it took me this long to upgrade. Everything that had begun to frustrate me on my 2018 Pro is now a complete breeze on this M4 Pro.

Also a lot of things I was blaming on my poor broadband actually seems to have been loosely related to the older iPad! A few sites / web based applications are immediately obvious as running quicker and much more responsive - and the keyboard has no stutter / mis inputs which is great.

it’s been 2 or so years since I edited videos on my previous Pro as it was just getting too warm and crashing 50% of the time - but I edited a short Finals clips video this morning and it was absolutely ideal. No problems scrubbing along the timeline, changing clips, using 4k footage or overlaying different audio samples. Dreamy, really happy with the change so far.
