Arc Raiders

Extraction shooters are not my cup of tea but I read somewhere that it's similar to the Division 1 Dark Zone which I loved, so I'll give it a try today.

I only play solo though, how's the solo experience?

I've been mainly playing solo, purely because other players have triggered a GTA 5 star level of arc robots response leading to multiple early deaths.

I've had more success with solo runs.

The TTK being so long makes anything other than the assault rifles kind of useless, I've literally shot unaware people with the single shot rifle multiple times, same goes for the shotgun, right in the back close range to someone facing away from me, they survive the first 2 hits and gun you down. Right now I honestly can't see any point in anything but taking an assault rifle. Made a lot worse because some of the missions force you to do damage to other players with shotguns or heavy ammo, and don't seem to refresh out of your active pool of 3.

I get that people are saying be quiet and pick sneaking abilities and things like that, trouble is that doesn't seem to matter in the slightest, I'd love to know the % of instances where this has actually changed the outcome of a game. It's all luck, sometime you just happen to weave between all teams, and enemies fight each other and come out weak and half dead and you pick them off with a single shot. Other times you get sandwiched between 2 groups, even if you're right on the outskits of the map being careful. The extraction points force you into conflict because there's only 3 free ones and they're either in or right between medium loot zones.

Meanwhile me and 2 friends have literally gone to the center of the map and tried to get into fights by beaming down teams with rifles and heavy ammo and attracted huge amounts of attention to ourselves and done it with zero repercussion.

The only upside was that playing with trios using randoms was actually a better experience that I was expecting (so far) some of the people I played with were mad b*****ds which sprinted straight for the high loot zone, getting into insane fights with the Arc, I just hope premades will be forced to play other premades and there's pvp balance based on loadout value.

They have to make shotguns more deadly at close range, put in more extraction points further around the edge, add in a quick recycle for all things safe to recycle, allow you to refresh your missions if they're crap.
One thing to bear in mind is that everyone is on the same map here, the starter map, when the game is out there are 12 maps and few players will stay running around the starter map, more geared players or players further through their quests will be on other maps.

The sneaking abilities do seem quite impactful, I duo'ed 6 rounds last night and we didnt encounter a single player in all 6 rounds (apart from a duo who were extracting, so we waited nearby for them to extract and then extracted ourselves afterwards)

A way of recycling quicker or a recycleable sorting option on the inventory would be good. Not sure I'd want it to recycle everything recycleable at the press of a key though as there are some things that you need which would get recycled. Maybe something like a Borderlands style "junk" key so that I could mark items when picked up as junk and then hit a key to recycle all marked items, that works tremendously well in Borderlands 4

Another tip, if you get the chance before the stress test weekend ends, play on the Lightning Storm version of the map if you have it pop for you, the atmosphere of the game in the storm is off the scale :)

Poor at the minute. It’s not a game designed for soloing - that said, it’s only a server stress test so I won’t condemn it completely.

It’s very much style over substance at the minute. Wait for release reviews first would be my suggestion.

From what people have said this reminds me of the dark zone on in The Division.

Not had chance to get on yet still though
I’ve seen a couple of posts in here mentioning it being similar to The Division Dark Zone - it’s not, IMO. Other than being a TPP view shooter there’s no real similarities in the 2 games whatsoever.

Yeah , I LOVE The Divisions and I LOVE Arc Raiders, but its not really a comparison/connection I'd make. I mean I guess its similar in that you run in, grab loot, fight other players while dodging npc enemies and then extract but its a different sort of gameplay still

Got into extraction shooters with the launch of Delta Force and that has mostly been enjoyable but the one thing that ruins DF and I see it here is the squad fill quality of players is just terrible. I don't have any friends to play these games with so relying on squad fill is like trying to coral kittens into a basket.
The server test is a bit limited to showcase what's available and for the most part this is just grab any loot, avoid most of the ARC stuff, and get out. Hopefully loot is more meaningful in the full release but for now it's all a bit meh. I imagine better guns are available to actually tackle some of the big ARC stuff but so far it's just not worth engaging in that aspect.

Can't quite get into the 3rd person PVP style either....just seems a bit off. And solo vs teams is just pointless, so as a solo it's just skirt around the edges and hope to find something interesting.

I was hoping this would be a nice alternative but nothing has jumped out at me as really interesting.

Anvil is by far the best weapon for dealing with arc.. hornets have armour on there front propellers so always aim for the back 2.. also if u can get hold a wolfpack grenade they are insane vs arc!

The sniper rifle, name eludes me at the moment, is also very good, can kill the arcs from a good distance. Sniper rifle is hard to come by though, I've only had 1 in my possession for the entire weekend :)
