Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 20th October 2025]

That's quite a statement from a supporter of a team that bought a bang average Championship level player :o

Let's see how much you're talking later in the season once Artechoke's had his usual meltdown.
he's scored more goals than isak

infact hes scored the same as etitike in the prem but cost a lot less :o ;)

As a neutral (well as neutral as I can get) I do wonder if last season was more on Slot inheriting Klopp's amazing team and riding on a really strong foundation, as opposed to his brilliance as a manger getting them to the title.

Interesting observation on the RB that I didn't really spot until you mentioned it. Frimpong, Bradley, Szobslai all very different profile of players for that position.
I think that's such a lazy view. Clearly he inherited a very strong squad but it wasn't a title winning squad and he made the changes to the way we played to take us to the title. Klopp wasn't playing Gravenberch as a 6, Szoboszlai as a 10 and allowing Salah to cheat - these were things Slot changed and were pivotal to our success.

For one reason or another we had to make big changes in the summer and Slot's got more than enough credit in the bank to be given the time to get things right. Despite not playing well and these results of late, we've still created more and better chances than the opposition in almost every game we've played this season - it's just been too much of a basketball game too often, which has allowed these results to happen when we've been misfiring.

Liverpool had a really good squad setup last season and are really struggling to integrate the new players. Their first 11 was unstoppable last season but I'm not really sure anyone is performing now. I think City might be the ones to watch out for with Haaland banging them in for fun.

Shame our wingers have turned into **** after signing Woltermessi!!

First few games of the season playing wonderful football creating chance after chance but no one to put the ball into the back of the net.

Buy a few strikers one gets injured one scoring for fun but then we start playing like dog ****!!

Can't wait for Talksh*** and SkySports tomorrow. All the talk will be the real test will be next week for Amorim and Utd, can they do it on a cold Saturday afternoon against Brighton etc.

I bet No back tracking on the cries to 'Crown Liverpool Champions by November', no mention at all of spending an utter fortune because, 'they are a team in transition'.

Weirdly I have heard different from talksport. All the talk I've heard is how anything less than the CL or League is a major flop from a team that won the league at a canter and added hundreds of millions of pounds of extras. Everyone expected at least more of the same from Liverpool or a 90+ season to take the title back off them. It's no use everyone now saying it's because of losing Trent when all anyone here did was ridicule the guy.

I was expecting a very boring year, but it could be a four horse race.

i'm just here to see who Arsenal graciously bow out of the league title to. Will it be City? Liverpool? Chelsea?

Not necessarily a bad thing if it is a four horse race until the final weeks of the season.

what a game. I was a wreck afterwards.

From a utd point of view, I don't think it can be understated how important the lack of drama from the goalkeeper was to us. He didn't have a crazy amount to do, but odds are if Onana was between the sticks, some of those corners coming in or the couple of melees around the box would have resulted in an Onana howler.

Notable that UTD didn't play out of the back once.

Read most of the posts here, and entirely agree that Dalot is a complete liability, if we can see it then you can be sure that Amorim sees it too, but clearly doesn't think he has anyone else at all to play that position.

Our whole midfield / front tired, which isn't surprisingly as they were running around a lot without the ball. Bruno lost the ball a lot, but he did make the winner. Massive miss not getting the one on target that was put on a plate for him. Respect to Cunha and Mbeumbo, they bring a dynamism that has been missing in utd.

I assume the only reason Amad was removed (at the same time as casemiro) was that both had recently gotten yellow cards, it would have been game changing if UTD went down to 10, so loss and all as he was, it was probably the correct decision.

It wasn't a great performance, but they were competitive, which is actually not a given these days.

Yep, I think its hard to overstate how much of an issue the keeper had become. The defence must have been so nervous at every ball in, every shot. You can't function like that. Lammens has been solid so far and has done well at times with how he has come out to close angles and make saves. Seems to be able to use his feet as well which is a welcome return. Never understood why more keepers don't make saves with their feet in certain positions.

Back on the topic of United, I only saw the second half but we weren't great. Nothing about the play gives me any more confidence in Amorim as the manager to take us forward. Best thing I can say is that Lammens looks solid. I'm currently not concerned that our keeper is going to make a complete mess of something simple. Fingers crossed that continues.

We've always been capable of putting together a good performance in these sorts of games.

I think the important thing here is that football is a mental game as much as anything else, and this should give a lot of belief to Amorim and the players. I do think if the team was well organised we have enough quality players to be a threat to anyone, but it's very easy for 'lesser' teams to counter attack us and that is the problem.

Goalkeeper was another huge problem and so far it looks like Lammens has fixed that, but he will make a mistake at some point and it's how he deals with that, but he seems extremely calm.

So for me the jury is still out, the next 3 games will tell us more. Neville said we "have to go and beat Brighton on Saturday now" and I don't think that's a guarantee at all. Then it's Spurs, also difficult, and Forest under Sean Dyche, a big physical side who will relish a counter attack.

This Liverpool game could be forgotten in a couple of weeks... or we may have turned a corner, but sadly we know that's not overly likely.

Yeah, I didn't see anything in that game that made me think our fundamentals had actually changed or really improved. Another day Liverpool would have drawn/won that game and we would be having a different discussion. Until we start putting games to bed routinely and having the odd wobble instead of the complete opposite I won't have much faith in Amorim.

Consistency is the name of the game, for the past decade we've always been able to pull big results out of the bag. This is primarily because despite having a disjointed team, we do have a number of very good players.

These last few games need to act as a springboard to galvanise the team mentally, and then it comes down to whether Amorim is actually any good at coaching them. He's won 3 of the last 4 league games, and beaten both Chelsea and Liverpool.

I don't mind if we lose some games either, as long as there are positive signs.

Edit :: it's worth remembering we've also got a full week to prepare for pretty much every game. That's a huge advantage if used correctly.

Watched some of the post match press conference and Ruben said Amad was removed due to the yellow. He had also lost a close family member in recent weeks.

I think the goal keeper situation has gone far under the radar of our massive problems. It was only his second start and he looked like he has been playing at United for ages. Kept his cool and his feet work was good and not rushed.

Maybe he is just average but after a couple of seasons with Onana I forgot what a normal goal keeper should be like.

If he does turn out to be the real deal that is something we can just forget about for the next decade. It also means the defence can have more confidence going forward.
