Arc Raiders

played a fair bit of ABI - wouldn't really be fair to compare it to the weekend stress test Arc just did but if one were to compare then yea, in comparison Arc has a lot less going on. but, as i posted previously, judge Arc on the full release. there was a shed load of 'stuff' missing from the server test from what i can tell/have read.

i'm probably leaning 60/40 towards this being 'better' than ABI purely because the world in Arc Raiders is so much more detailed and interesting. ABI is basically tarkov lite - and that's not knocking it, i really like ABI and Tarkov - whereas Arc is just that bit different. add to that the 'lore' and story are much more interesting compared to ABI (or even tarkov)

my only real dislike so far is the tpp viewpoint - does my nut in playing these types of game in tpp, but that's probably more to do with abi/tarkov and most the other games i play being fpp.

i'd strongly suggest taking a look at a twitch/youtube stream or 2 on release day to get a better idea of the game content - i know that's my plan. my appetite has been whetted enough with the 2 beta tests i farted about in that i'll most likely purchase release day +1.....assuming reviews are favourable and there's not been some sort of bait and switch or other shenanigans.
Thanks.

Agree about TPP, really puts me off.

I've not played ABI, but I took a look at this screenshot and thought, nope..not for me that. Thats too indepth for what I like these days, would have liked that 10 years ago but these days I appreciate the simpler things in life :D

ABI isn't really complicated, you dont have to do anything like complex gun builds you can just crack on with the game. Its like Tarkov lite with lots of quality of life stuff that makes you spend less time juggling inventory stuff and knowing what ammo/armour is decent.

I just log in, grab some random stuff from my inventory and enter a raid.

Its really impressive for a free game.

Only got time for one competitive shooter game in my gaming schedule and thats going to be Arc Raiders :) , maybe when theres fewer games to play and/or I'm finished with Arc Raiders I will take a look but with the huge amount of games dropping over the next 6 months it could be a while before that happens !

I tried to get into ABI but for some reason it just kept crashing and I'm not sure why :( It's a shame as i used to play a tarkov a lot but haven't touched it in year or two.

As for Arch raiders it had some really nice points like the sound, AI was great, world looked nice and ran well, the queue times were fast. But I never found myself excited when looting? Like i did in tarkov. The combat wasn't that fun, I'm not sure why? Maybe because its third person view or the highish TTK? The guns didn't that fun to use...apart from the 3 round burst rifle.

Another thing that annoyed me was the traders having cooldowns on purchasing items or the requirement for a free argument in order to buy a better one.

I will try it agian on release using the steam two hour trial but i don't think the game is for me.

Is part of that lack of gear fear down to it being a stress test, so you know you will lose everything at the end of the weekend anyway, plus its only the starter map so its not like you can get any higher level gear to then be worried about losing?

Yeah I had this in the back of my mind knowing its not carrying over to the full game. I did get annoyed when you got for example a silencer from the battle pass thing, put it on a gun thinking maybe this would be accessible in some way shape or form but after the next play lost it along with the rest. It was uncanny how often the third party pounces were happening, I definitely didnt feel like I was up against the ARC and some random weekend testers  but I only played a couple of hours each day with mates, looking forward to the real release now.

I haven't pre-ordered a game in years, I don't buy many these days. I've also never played an extraction shooter before. But Arc has changed that for me this.

I finally have my own office away from the house where I can use a mic and enjoy the social side of gaming and the Arc stress test really sold the game to me. Short commitment when you're playing and I still like the risk/reward factor. There's no worry about getting good to a CS level to enjoy it (in fact I sold all my years of crap CS skins becasue I'll never play that again) so 40 yuear old me doesn't need to stress to much about being mildly terrible.

I'm looking forward to this weekend to be tagging along on the hype train.

I ummed and arrred about this. After the Tech Test I liked it, but it felt different after the Server Slam and I wasn't sure if it was right for me as I hated the camping/uneven balance against other players, but I'm hoping to get a few games in with other players, those around my age (I'm 50), for fun and learning the ways of the game :D

It's been out awhile now , early access I believe.

Streamers lapped it up, but player count is dying off
What are you on about? It releases this Thursday!

It had a tech test back in May and a server stress test last weekend - no other early access.

get out of here Neil... go moan in BF6 thread about hit reg and stuff leave arc raiders to us please :D i have 11 days off from Thursday.. cant wait for this game
Thats absolutely nuts, I have 11 days off from Thursday too, are you me, am I schizophrenic, is this reality?

I got this game bundled with my 5080, but I don't have any of my friends playing this with me.

Anyone wanna team up?

Preload is now out on steam, ready for Thur.

I preordered in the end, I had about as much fun as frustration in the server slam but I'm betting on more game balance once the other maps are out and the player base balances skill wise. If they screw that up and allowed premades vs Randoms or sweaty players enough wrecking noobs, then I think the game will be dead inside a month. We'll see. I'll team up if anyone wants to play, I think my friends are still on the fence as to whether they will buy.
