Try Davies: https://www.yell.com/biz/davies-motor-company-cardiff-2840053/

And Up to Scratch in Caerphilly: https://up-to-scratch.com/

iRG are alright, but the two above will be much better.

Cheers, i have also fired off the quote to up to scratch so they will get back to me also. Not done the davies one

I have 2 email quotes pending and 1 im going to see down the road after work

EDIT: IRG have come back with this - Seems quite higher than expected! i dont think the guy is going to want to do that without insurance
===============================================================================

Good morning,
Thank you for the images, they are very clear.
The bumper will need some filler as the damage has gone through the paint.
I have also put to blend the left rear wing for best colour match as this colour is quite particular, and it is metallic.

I have quoted a rough estimate of £1200 plus VAT. This may need ADAS if the vehicle has blind spots in the rear, which would be an extra cost.
ADAS usually comes out to £275 plus VAT.

Please let me know if you would be interested in having this done with us.

I am questioning why he would have to put a blend in the left rear wing? also the comment about the colour? surely he would just get the paint matching bmw snapper rocks which is obviously a metallic colour?

Often, particularly with lighter/metallic colours, you need to blend into the next panel as it’s impossible to paint the exact same colour. So there would be a mismatch. It is possible to get it pretty close though.

A brilliant smart repair guy might be able to get it 95% right without repainting too much, but unfortunately this sort of thing is never that straightforward!

i guess your right

Caerphilly up to scratch just sent me this, price seems a bit better? but eitherway i dont know what the end results will be like for either of them, one place is high, one place seems lower, they seem to have a decent website

Good morning,
Thanks for your enquiry.
Based on the photos, costs to remove and refit, repair and refinish the complete rear bumper would total £438+vat, this is inclusive of all paint, materials and labour.

We would need the car for 2-3 days but we do have small courtesy cars available that can be booked in advance if needed for a small one off cost of £30+vat.
If you need any further information, have any questions or to go ahead and make a booking feel free to get in touch.

Regards,

upto scratch

what you think of that one? Sorry to post in this thead, i should have made my own thread :(

Up to Scratch are well regarded and I have seen their work - it's good. I do know a really good detailer that would get it smart repaired for you, and then work the paint back as best he can, but that would be £££, too.

Your issue is that you have metallic paint and a colour match is going to be challenging.

Most cars have metallic paint, they have for years havnt they ? snapper rocks is also a well known BMW colour, so shouldnt be that hard to match ?

They sound good but then you say challenging? i still dont get this ? if they do a good job then it should be alright ?

IRG are obviously going to charge me in excess of £1300 which obviously the guy is probably going to decline doing this without insurance,

something like £400-£450 seems more feasable but aslong as they do a good job

If i stood behind it once done, and look at it from 5 meters, would i notice it ? is the question

It's not about whether it's a well known colour or not.

Metallic paint can be harder to match because the metal flake in the paint doesn't necessarily sit the same as the original painting process, hence why blending into another panel is often used, so that the blend is somewhere a bit less noticeable (e.g. swage lines and curves) rather than the sharp cut off of panel gaps.

Add in the effects of aging due to UV from sunlight etc, and the paint on your car isn't necessarily 100% exactly the same as the BMW colour that left the factory.

Im not a paint or body shop expert so I don't know. I'm relying on them to do the work

It sounds like

Pay £400 and you can get a good/ great job done

Pay £1300 and you get an excellent fantastic job done

I assume this is the case ?

I highly doubt this guy will end up paying for £1300 worth of work without wanting to go through insurance. I can put it out there but he may just turn round and say no he wants to sort it via insurance

All I want is for it to be repaired and if possible not take 40% off the value of the car

Why would you assume that?
You can pay £1300 and still get a **** job done.

There are different ways of doing the repair, hence why some quotes will be different.

Some repairers might not want to do the job, because they know you'll expect a perfect job and hence have either quoted ridiculously high to dissuade you (or at least have some margin in case they need to re-do it a 2nd time). Some repairers will always give inflated insurance prices regardless.

Personally if I was expecting someone else to pay for the job in cash rather than via insurance, shop around get 4 or 5 quotes - discount the cheapest and most expensive, and settle for one somewhere in the middle (ideally one with good reviews, or are able to show examples of previous work).

well looking at the reviews of the up to scratch place on google they seem pretty good

irg also have good reviews but they are costed high

i will try the other place after work, 2 brothers own units one is a machanic the other a body shop on newport road cardiff - i know them well but never used the body shop, its next door to the garage though, i will take it down there so they can physically see as its on the way back from work

That quote was £350 for repair and paint although he said I'd need to strip the wax off the bumper first

I'm sure they will be very caerphil with your car

Im hoping so

I will send the guy a text asking for his email and ill send him the quote, hoping he is ok with that

I wont be able to get it sorted until I back from the Netherlands as i leave on sunday though, back on 31st so i will have to arrange for it to be done when im back. I may need to try and get the collinite wax off the rear bumper. Anyone know a quick way of getting physical wax off? im probably going to have to get 2 buckets out with warm water and give it some microfibre washes?

I dont think they can paint over wax. I will ask them. (apparently they will sort this during the prep work)

If the guy responds, the place in caerphilly said the earliest they could book me in would be 8th nov due to the courtasy car availability.

The guy accepted the quote and iv fired him an email cc'ing in the body shop place, just waiting for him to reply and confirm over email

The shop can get me booked in earliest 8th nov so this is what i have put in to drop it off.

Don't worry about removing the wax. Any good bodyshop will be fully prepping the surface by sanding it down, filling if necessary - hard to tell how deep the scratches/dents are on your pics, and then laying paint and clear over the top.

I'd actually be wary of a bodyshop asking you to remove something as simple as a car wax, they should indeed be prepping any areas that are going to be painted. PPF I would maybe understand, but I'm sure they'd notice it before painting.

the one that was asking me to remove the wax was one that i am not going to

up to scratch which is the place i am going to said they will sort that as part of the preperation, but they thanked me for informing them that i had wax applied to it.

Its a shame i couldnt drop it off on the sat 1st nov but i guess i cant help their availability, anyway its booked in for 8th nov. I have emailed the guy who is paying for it with the body shop cc'd in, Just waiting for him to respond to the email as he only responded with the acceptance over text this morning

This is my pic I have a few pics

Looks and feels a lot worse in person

If I manage to collar him this eve do I go through insurance as a non fault claim ?

I would like for this to be corrected
This is why you should always reverse into spaces. You wouldn't have scratched your rear bumper :)

I didnt scratch it, the guy scratched it. to the right of my car was the ramp so no one can park to the right of me in that pic, and to the left i left plenty of space and i was well within my parking space, i was no where near the left white line

i didnt show you the pic of his truck, its absolutely huge, even when he decided he couldnt fit his truck in the space to the left of mine after bashing my car, he chose another space, and even in that space he couldnt park it properly, his truck was over one of the lines and the thing was massive. to the left and to the right of his truck was 2 normal sized cars and his looked gigantic compared to the other 2.

I have no idea why people who cant drive choose oversized vehicles to drive around in.

Anyway, the guy has conrirmed he is going to bank transfer me the quote cost (for work + the vat on top) and i can just take it in to get done on 8th november.
