***Hogwarts Legacy - RPG***

Just loaded this up again.

I'm running at 3440x1440, 12700K @ 5/4, 4090, fully maxed out everything, including RT, and it runs great for me.

No micro stutter, great frametime.

I do set unlimited shader cache in NVCP, maybe that's why I don't seem to suffer stutter like other folks.

Something I've never got to the bottom of with this game is how on different PCs the "preparing shaders"/loading time, after the first time, differs so much - on some systems it takes like 20 seconds, on others a full minute, others anywhere from 2 minutes to 5-10 minutes. If you are on a system with low physical RAM it skips it entirely but you get mad stutters when playing.

Recently loaded it up on a 5800X3D/4070 non super RIG and it took less than a minute, I'd say 30-40 seconds? 32gb of RAM if that helps.

Had no notable stutters during the intro hour or so but RT was disabled by default, I've yet to find out how much it impacts things.

Shader compilation was a lot faster with a 5700X3d and 32GB RAM than it was with a 2700x and 16GB RAM. Also far less stuttery in game.

Do you mean even on like for like PCs?

Because faster CPUs can compile shaders faster than slower CPUs

I bought this a while back and enjoyed it at first but then got stuck as the combat got more difficult. I am not that great at fast combat games anyway but what I found most difficult was playing it on m&kb there was a lot on the left hand and I can't use all the keys there without looking down at my hand and that of course means looking away from the screen.

Is anyone playing successfully using keyboard or is it better to use a controller?

Much, much better with a controller.

Loads of people have picked it up recently, not sure why - my brother has just started playing it on the Switch which from all reports seems to be the worst way to experience it :s

EDIT: Though it doesn't play that great on the original Lenovo Legion Go either mind due to sharing the 16GB RAM with the GPU - should play a lot better on the 32GB Go 2.

Price.

I'm a huge fan of RPG's but not much into Hairy Pooter, so I gave it a miss. It's dropped down to around a fiver to buy via key sites, and isn't far off directly via Steam right now so decided to give it a look. I think it's on very deep sales on most platforms. Pretty quick reduction in cost for a relatively new game that actually did well in terms of copies sold, it's very unusual and it being a bit infamous for performance I suspect it made a lot bite simply from curiosity.

Personally think it worth a play, but there are a few areas which could have been done much better, partly suffering due to being developed primarily for console.

Something that was a huge missed opportunity in my opinion was that wands were just cosmetic, even if only small boosts, etc. it would have really enhanced the game if wands had personalities and bonuses/penalties and could be discovered and crafted with stats, etc.
